Definition :-
The word pteridophytes is derived from two Greek words i.e pteron
and phyta. Pteron means feathers and phyta means plant . Literally it
means plants having feather like leaves.
Any plant of the division Pteridophyta, characterized by vascular tissue
and differentiation into root, stem, and leaves, comprising the ferns,
horsetails, and club mosses.
Origin :-
The pteridophytes are also known
as 'vascular cryptogams'. ...
Later on in 1945, Fritsch suggested
that the pteridophytes originated
from an erect and parenchymatous
green alga with an isomorphic life-cycle.
Some of the workers believe that
the pteridophytes have been originated
from bryophytes.
