DIRECT SHEAR TEST GEO-ANALYSIS TEMPLATE


ASTM VERSION (Designation D 3080)

30-WF6016 T9 is a Microsoft Excel based spreadsheet. The only prerequisites for


working with it are:
You should have Microsoft Excel 2003 or later version installed on your computer
You should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel
The macro security of the computer must be set to ‘Low’ (see the Setting the macro
security section below)
If the template is to be installed on a different computer to the one that is recording
test data, the regional settings for both computers must be the same (see the
Changing the regional settings section below)

The template can only be used with an activation code which will be provided by
CONTROLS upon your request (see the instructions in the Installing the template section
below).

The template will only work on the computer on which it was registered. If it is copied
to another computer, another activation code will be required. CONTROLS will provide
up to three activation codes for each template purchased.

INSTALLING THE TEMPLATE


1. Insert the CD.
2. Copy the folder ‘30-WF6016 T9’ from the CD onto your computer.
NOTE: The template folder must be copied onto the hard disc of the computer and
not a network location.
3. Double click the application file ‘30-WF6016 T9’ to run it and the template will open.

The template can be used for a 30 day trial period without being registered. After
this period has expired, you will not be able to use the template without an
activation code. An activation code can be supplied by CONTROLS at any time during
or after the trial period.
4. To apply for your activation code, select Register from the T9 menu on the Excel
toolbar and follow the instructions given on screen.

Your activation code will usually be emailed to you within 1 working day of your
request.

CHANGING THE REGIONAL SETTINGS
For the template to function correctly, the regional settings of the computer with the
template installed must be the same as the computer that logs the test data.
This example shows how to change the settings to English.

1. Select Control Panel from the Start menu.

2. In the Control Panel window, double click Regional and Language Options and then
select the Regional Options tab.

3. Select ‘English (United Kingdom)’ from the list and click the Apply button.

4. Click the OK button to close the panel and then close the Control Panel window.

SETTING THE MACRO SECURITY
In order for all the functions of the template to work, the macros must be fully enabled
in the Excel options. The procedure is described below, for Excel 2003, Excel 2007 and
Excel 2010.

Excel 2003
1. Open Excel.
2. Select Tools / Macro / Security from the Excel menu.

3. On the Security Level tab, select the Low option.

4. Click the OK button.

Excel 2007
1. Open Excel.
2. Click the Office button and then click the Excel Options button.

3. Select Trust Center from the menu and then click the Trust Center Settings button.

4. Select Macro Settings from the menu and then select the Enable all macros option.

5. Click the OK button on each panel to close it.

Excel 2010
1. Open Excel.
2. Select the File tab and then select Options from the menu.

3. Follow steps 3 to 5 from the Excel 2007 instructions above.
