A study on Assessing the Effects Of Advertising in Southern Railways with special
reference to Palakkad.

Need for the Study


Advertising is evolving everyday and Indian Railways is an excellent platform to advertise
any product cheaply and efficiently because more than 25 million passengers are transported every
day and an estimate of 8116 million passengers are transported annually in Southern Railways
alone. Advertising in Southern Railways starts at Rs.130 , which makes it one of the cheapest and
best platform to advertise any product.

Objectives of the Study


Primary Objective

 To assess the effects of advertising in Southern Railways with reference to Palakkad .

Secondary Objectives

 To study about the reach of advertising


 To study the relationship between demographic factors and advertising.
 To study the relationship between economic factors and advertising.
 To find out the most effective way of advertising.

Research Methodology
Research Design
The descriptive research is used for this study. The main objective of using descriptive
research is to describe the state of affairs as it exists at present. It mainly involves surveys and fact
finding enquiries of different kinds.

Sampling plan

Sampling plan is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It covers the
following areas:

Population
Passengers of Southern Railways.

Sampling Unit
The respondents are from Southern Railways, Palakakd Junction.
Sampling Size

Sample size of 150 respondents from Southern Railways, Palakkad Junction.

Sampling Method

Convenience sampling technique has been adopted for the study.

Sources of Data

Primary Data

The data those are collected as fresh for the first time and happen to be original in character
are called as primary data .Primary data collected through questionnaire, (i.e.) structural
questionnaires.

Questionnaire design and Development

Questionnaire is the heart of a survey operation. This is structured questionnaire, which


has been framed for conducting the survey. The questions were presented with exactly the same
wordings and in the same order to all the respondents.

- Internet

Tools Used for the Study


The appropriate tools like questionnaire ,statistics and data analysis will be used for the study.

Scope of the Study


The scope studies about suggestions to various enterprises and third party advertisers to
advertise their products effectively as well as cheaply.

Limitations of the Study


 The results of the study are appropriate only for Palakkad Junction of Southern Railways
and it may not be used in any other stations within the same company due to differing
environmental factors.
 The learning of the study is not applicable to any other stations of the company located in
any other geographic location.
 The solution provided by the research is not applicable to any other zones of Indian
Railways.
