In Nepal, the association of business organizations became created through their unity or mutual harmony,
which is called Nepalese business support agency.
The history of organized business organizations is not so long. After the democratic revolution of 2064 B.S.
in Nepal, many business organizations are established in private sectors. These organizations are investing
their capitals in commercial and industrial sectors. The invested capital in business is risky and also uncertain
economic activity. Only one investor can not play important role in the business world. There is essential to
unity among all the investors to protect and save their right with mutual harmony. Such type of unity will help
their own members for the protection of their right. As a result, the association of business organizations
became created through this unity or mutual harmony, which is called Nepalese business support agency. In
this competitive business world, Nepalese business support agency helps its members. Therefore, today,
private sectors have to succeed for playing the vital role for the development of business activities in Nepal.
Hence, some important business support centers appeared playing the important role for the economic
development in Nepal. They are Federations of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI),
Nepal Chamber of commerce (NCC) and Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC).
A. Nepal chamber of commerce (NCC)
Introduction

NCC is the first chamber of commerce in Nepal, which is represented on behalf of private sectors in several
government committees.
Nepal chamber of commerce (NCC) is an important private sector business support agency in Nepal. NCC is
established in the year 1952 (2005B.S.) which is the first chamber of commerce in Nepal. At present, it has
more than 1600 ordinary members and more than 8000 registered firms. The corporate office of NCC is
located at Jamal of Kathmandu valley in the capital city of Nepal NCC has been playing remarkable role in the
business promotion and formulation of commercial, industrial and fiscal polices of government of Nepal. The
NCC is represented on behalf of private sector in several government committees. The main committees
represented by the NCC are:
a) Social welfare council.
b) Trade council.
c) Export promotion committee.
d) Central tariff/ revenue consultative committee.
e) Press council.
f) Tax assessment committee.
g) Custom valuation.
h) Cottage and small scale industries development committee.
i) International trade fair and exhibition organizing committee.

Objectives
The prime objective of NCC is to assist in the development of national economy through the promotion and
protection of commerce and industries both at that private and public sector. The objective can be defined by
the following leading tasks of NCC. The specific objectives are:
a) To foster good relationship and unity among the trading community and industrialists.
b) To develop links with commercial, industrial institutions around the world and to co-operate with each
other for the betterment of national economy

Formation of NCC

NCC is formed with the representative of ordinary members of business communities and other registered
firms.
NCC, the first chamber of commerce, is formed with the representatives of ordinary members of business
communities and different registered firms. At present, it has more than 1600 ordinary members and more than
8000 registered firms. It is formulated legally and in democratic way in its own principle. For the formation of
NCC, the other detailed information are essential. They are as follows:

1. Membership: Any individual firm, corporation and organization engaged in trade, industry or related
profession is eligible to receive NCC membership. The NCC has introduced and practiced four types of
membership

2. General meeting: The general meeting of NCC is held annually to discuss and pass resolution during
which vacant seats of executive committee, if any, are also fulfilled. The progress report and audit report of the

committee are the representative business agencies of Nepal. The activities of NCC are planned, programmed
and carried out by the executive committee comprising of 36 members, out of which 29 are elected by the
general assembly. Rest 4 members are nominated from among the affiliated members and 1 from general
members while the another one is nominated by the NCC president. The president, 1st and 2nd vice presidents,

relationship and maintain unity among the trading communities and industrialists of Nepal. It has to play the
role of facilities to develop fair and competitive business environment. Besides this, it coordinates business
communities if any disputes and conflicts created among them.
2. Trade and industries fairs: Another function of NCC is to organize trade and industrial fairs at national
and international. It has to co-operate to manage healthy and friendly business environment for the Nepalese
communities to participate in such fairs. It also provides technical services to business communities so that
they can participate easily in such trade and industrial fairs.
3. Issue certificate of organization: If the Nepalese businessman is to issue certificate of origin for the
Nepalese products within the legal provisions of NCC act, they (Nepalese products) get some exemption in tax
and custom duty. From this, export trade of Nepal will be increased easily. Hence, the function of NCC helps
to promote export trade by issuing certificate of origins.
4. Seminar and training: The function of NCC is to provide essential information to the businessman
through the academic institutions related to commerce and industry. Besides, it also involves in the technical
management and hold workshops, seminars, training and research programs continually to promote business

with including national and international economic and business activities to promote the industry and

B. Federation of Nepalese chamber of commerce and industry (FNCCI)
Introduction

FNCCI is the nationally and internationally organized umbrella organization of business in Nepal.
The federation of Nepalese chamber of commerce and industry (FNCCI) is the nationally and internationally
recognized umbrella organization of business in Nepal. It was established in 1965A.D. to promote business
and industry the protect rights and interests of business and industrial communities. The vision of FNCCI is
"leading the nation's economic progress." Its mission is "Facilitating Nepalese Business to be globally
Competitive". Therefore, it is organized as a representative body of business organizations in the country. It
represents the interests of the private sector and involved in promotion of socio-economic development of
Nepal through private sector and invited in promotion of socio-economic development of Nepal through
private sector leading economic growth.
Objectives
The FNCCI objectives are determined by its statute. These includes
a) Promote the economic and social development of Nepal while protecting and defending the rights and
interests of the business persons of the entire country.
b) Make effective and significant contribution to the development of open market economy while
recognizing the changes taking place in the global area.
c) Act as a supreme representative body of the trade and industry of the country while supporting the national
goals of self reliant and independent national economy.

Formation of FNCCI

FNCCI contributes to help national economy as well as private sectors and industrialist.
The Federation of Nepalese chambers of commerce and industry (FNCCI) is formed with the representations
of district and municipality level chambers, commodity and sectoral association and leading public and
private sectors. It contributes to help national economy as well as private investors and industrialists. It is the
organization with legal existence and also has the service motive. It has own "federation of Nepalese chambers
of commerce and industry bye law 2049 B.S." to formulation and regulation. The detailed formation of FNCCI
representatives are as follows:
1. Structure/Membership: Registered as a national representative chamber in pursuant of section 3 of the
national directives Act, 1961 (Rastriya Nirdeshan act in 2018 B.S.) the FNCCI is comprised of:
a) 92 district/ municipality level chambers in 75 districts of Nepal.
b) 76 commodity/Sectoral associations.
c) 439 leading public and private sectors undertaking.
d) 10 Bi-national Chambers of commerce and industry.
2. General assembly and executive committee: The highest policy making body of the FNCCI is its
general assembly which generally meets on an annual basis. The activities and functions of the FNCCI are
planned and managed by the executive committee, which consists of 74 members. The executive committee is

3. Councils: There are three council viz. District Municipality Council, commodity council and employers'
council within FNCCI looking after the specific interests of the various segments of its members. The
employers' council a permanent organ of the FNCCI acts as the national organization of employees. It
establishes links between employers, employees and the government through regular contacts. It also provides

4. Membership committee: The membership committee verifies or examines the applications for
membership and submits recommendation to the executive committee for decision to grant membership of

5. Secretariat: There is a professional secretariat with business library, training unit and human resource
development centre for the effective day to day operation of FNCCI. There are also facilitated of a database

C. Trade and Export Promotion Center (TEPC): Introduction and Functions
Introduction of TEPC

TEPC is established with the primary objective of promoting foreign trade in general and export trade in
particular of the country.
The government of Nepal has established "Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC) in November 2006",
which is known as national trade promotion organization of the country. But previously it was only known as
trade promotion centre. TEPC is established with the primary objective of promoting foreign trade in general
and export trade in particular of the country.
'Trade and export promotion centre', a national trade promotion organization of the country was established by
merging three organizations namely trade promotion centre, export promotion board, and carpet and wool
development board. Now it is working as the secretary of Nepal Trade promotion board. TEPC has been
established to provide support for private entities to promote export oriented production and distribution of
goods and services. Besides this, it has contributed significantly in identifying markets, promoting trade
relationship, developing new markets and establishing relationship between importers and exporters.
Therefore, the role of TEPC is very important for the expansion and diversification of exports and domestic
markets in the world.
Functions of TEPC
The objectives of TEPC are to promote foreign trade in general and export trade in particular of the country.
