Badly Dubbed
It’s a debate that’s been ongoing for years in our office;
is it best to attend the madness that is the official
Volkswagen stand at Wörthersee
offered more than a few surprises
Wörthersee Treffen, or should you follow the cool kids
and hit up the unofficial pre-show event instead? Having
attended both on numerous occasions I think it’s safe
to say they both have their pros and cons. I used to
prefer the unofficial shenanigans (held up to two weeks
beforehand) but these days it’s the experience of the
main event that appeals more. There’s just something
about downtown Reifnitz when the show is in full flow…
you never know what (or who) you’re going to see roll
pass in the traffic. Simply sit on a bench, grab a beer
and watch the world go by! It’s Veedub heaven…
The manufacturer stands (they’re actually more like
small villages) are also something else. It’s great to see
the likes of Volkswagen really embracing the aftermarket.
For so many years it felt like VW frowned upon what we
were doing, and yet these days they not only embrace
our efforts to make our cars individual, they actually
build their own one-off creations as well.
And while you might not find all the best cars rolling
through Reifnitz, you only need to head out of town a
mile or so to find them parked up on the roadside. Read
all about it in our coverage on page 42. Enjoy the mag!

Alabama-based tuner's new range
of wheels too. This is its first offering,

the appropriately-named A01. These A01 weights just 9.5kg
flow-formed beauties don’t just look good,
at just 9.5kg each, they’re light too. They come
in 8.5x19” ET45 and 5x112 for now, with a
66.4mm centre bore and including a 57.1mm
interlocking hub-centric ring. Of course, they
are fully TUV, DOT, VIA and JWL certified and
APR also carried out Finite Element Analysis
(FEA) to minimize weight yet retain a 700kg load
rating. That’s a lot of acronyms, but basically it
means they are quality bits of kit. They come
in two colours, Hyper Silver and Gunmetal Grey
and have removable centre-caps that fit the VW
and Audi stock items. APR also utilised anti-slip
machining where the tyre meets the wheel to
prevent unwanted rotation. The icing on the
cake? A lifetime warranty against manufacturer
defects and one year on wheel finish.

MQB MOUNTS
Revo’s R&D team are on a bit of a roll at the moment and its latest
offerings are these engine mounts for the 2012 2.0-litre TSI found in
MQB cars. Revo’s mounts use Powerflex bushings – and Powerflex
know a thing or two about developing polyurethane bushings – to
dramatically reduce engine movement without causing too much noise
and vibration. You can buy the three mounts separately if you wish
but the better bet is to get the full set as a complete kit and really
transform the way your car drives and feels.

What are these Reloaded pages all about
then? We launched this monthly regular feature
back around the time we celebrated PVW’s
20th birthday. We were feeling nostalgic at
the time, and judging by how popular the
90sVWShowScene group on Facebook and the
@90svwdubscene account on Instagram are
these days, we know we’re not the only ones
who enjoy a good look back in to modded VW
history. Which is what Reloaded is all about. Each
month we pick a car from back in the day, no
rules, and take a look at what made it so special.

May 2006 issue of PVW looking for a suitable
car to put in these Reloaded pages right here.
We came across the infamous Project X, also
known as fifteen52design’s (as they were called
back then) Mk4 Jetta coupe build. Instantly it
was the early two-thousands and we were sitting
in the old-old PVW towers scrolling through the
VWVortex.com thread that was following the
build. We remember that exact moment, some
16 or so years ago, clear as day yet can’t
remember what we had for dinner last night.
Funny how that works. Anyway… You see,
VWVortex got themselves an exclusive on the
build back in the day and this mad build was
updated in real time on the site right in front of
our eyes – a pretty novel idea at the time. While
we’re on the subject, remember forum build
threads? Yeah, we miss those, too.
The story goes fifteen52design were looking
for its next project-come-demo car and, after
a chat with one of the Vortex originators and
editors, Jamie Vondruska, decided to build
what nobody else had attempted before, a Mk4
Jetta (aka, Bora) coupe! Inspired by VW’s own
CJ Concept from early 1998, fifteen52design
set about chopping up a Mk4 GTI and grafting of glass! Finally, after a lot (and we mean a lot!) of headaches,
the panels on to the Jetta before painting the Project X debuted not-quite-finished at Waterfest. The car was

REWIND we may not have always been so finely POLISHED,
but we’ve always been at the forefront of the

JULY 2017
Liam Handley’s Euro-look Polo took the cover slot last year,
while inside we had a timeless Mk2 GTI from New Zealand, an
old-skool Brazilian Passat, supercharged VR6 Vento from across
the pond, plus a Mk1 Golf running a TFSI DSG swap and Mk1
Scirocco and Golf pairing from David Milligan. We wrapped with
a TFSI tuning guide and Early Edition coverage.

JULY 2013
Wow, it’s five years since Dobbin’s flew over to Norway to bag
Erik Kluge’s semi space-framed, mid-engined Mk2. Inside we
featured a pair of APR Mk6s from down under, a bagged Audi
100, a stanced VW Fox wagon, a Mk1 Caddy TDI, a Mk3 VR6
estate, plus we took Revo’s new Scirocco for a romantic trip
to Paris and a check out a pair of bagged Mk6s from Belgium.
We also had an exclusive interview with Tom Onslow-Cole and
coverage from Early Edition.

JULY 2008
A decade ago Ollie Woodier’s Mk1 TT stole cover, while inside
we took a closer look at Joe Walsh’s Mk1 Caddy, hopped the
pond to feature a pair of sibling’s tuned Golfs, came back to
East London for a Mk4 Golf and Passat B5.5 pairing, shot
a bunch of 11 white cars at Worthersee, snagged a trio of
bagged Dubs in Florida, checked out Regal’s big turbo Mk5
GTI and had show coverage from GTI Spring Festival and the
Worthersee Treffen.

JULY 2003
It’s fifteen years since Premier’s Rhubarb & Custard Mk2 broke
cover; bench seat, gold plating, the car was bonkers. Inside we
debuted Kalpesh Patel’s Mk1 Cabby, a pair of stateside Mk3s,
a wide body Belgian A4 Avant, a German Euro-look Polo G40
and road tested the New Beetle Cabrio and latest Touareg. We
wrapped the issue with coverage from GTI International.
