Junior High Mentorship Program

Our Mission
The Mission of Lincoln Christian School is to teach the
Truth, through learning about God’s world in the light of
God’s Word.

Our Vision
Every student will experience a life-changing Christian
education which intentionally integrates the truth of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ into every aspect of intellectual,
physical, social, and spiritual life.

Our Core Values

God-Centered Focus
God must be first in everything we do. All of the school’s operations must be
conducted in a manner that brings glory to God—guided and empowered by the
Holy Spirit through prayer and steadfast obedience to God’s Word.

Biblical Emphasis
All instruction and activities must be centered on God’s Word, challenging each
student to develop a thorough understanding of the Word and encouraging a
deep, personal relationship with the Creator.

Family Orientation
The school complements the educational responsibilities of the home and the
church and encourages all school families to be actively involved.

Academic Excellence
A Christian education requires rigorous academic standards as well as
continuous evaluation and improvement.

Responsible Stewardship
The school must use the resources God provides effectively and efficiently.
Purpose:
The purpose is to pursue spiritual growth with each child through building
relationships and pursuing life applicable topics through the lens of who God is and
who each student is in Christ.
This program is not meant to be lecture based or teacher driven. Rather it is
based upon communal learning, where the group leader (teacher) is pursuing the
topic jointly with the students. By leading through communal learning students will
feel less “preached at,” will feel listened to and heard, and will allow the group
leader to address the facets of the issue that the students view as relevant to their
life.

Group 1
MEET & GREET—WHO WE WILL BE AS A GROUP

Goal:
 Get to know each other.
 Set up group dynamics.
 Start relating.

Working Philosophy:
Students do not want another class-styled lecture during the school
day. Rather they want a time they look forward to and in which they feel safe
to communicate ideas, concerns, and struggles. Today’s group focuses more
on fun and forming relationships so that members of the group will later feel
confident and secure to share in the group.

Materials:
 Notecards
 Pens/Pencils

Activity 1: Get to know each other.

 Go around the group and have each student introduce themselves
with the following statements and answer at least one of the following
questions (for fun).
1. Name
2. Favorite thing that they have done or that has happened
during this fall.
3. What activities they have been a part of, or will be a part of.
(i.e. sports, dance, choir, band, drama)
4. 1 Odd Question… 
a. What fictional character would they be?
b. What is your favorite type of cereal?
c. Name 3 things that you would choose to be stranded
on an island with. & why?
d. Favorite food?
e. Favorite movie?
f. Favorite beverage?
g. Favorite game: board game, laser tag, dodge ball,
four square, cards, etc?
h. Most memorable moment…EVER?
i. Favorite place you have visited?
j. Favorite activity you have tried & want to try? (i.e.
skydiving, horseback riding, jet skiing, climbing,
hunting, painting, juggling, creating balloon animals,
etc.
Activity 2: Set up Group Dynamics
 Ask each student to list on a notecard 1-3 things that they would like
to have as a part of the group this year.
o Discuss the common themes and set up the beliefs and core
statements of your group.
o Help the kids get excited about this…
 What will set them apart as a group?
 What kind of actions or things could they do as a group
to secretly serve the school or other students this year?
 PLEASE NOTE: As the group leader you do set the dynamic, but help
the students feel that it is their group as well.
o It is suggested that all everything said in the group stays in the
group unless what is stated would cause personal or harm to
another. Please reinforce this with your group. It is a very
important dynamic!

Activity 3: Prayer Requests and Prayer

 Now that you have set up the fact that everything said in the group
stays in the group take the opportunity as a group to share prayer
requests & pray for one another.
o Ask students to pray for the volunteered prayer request.
o If students struggle to share prayer requests, lead by
example…Share a prayer request that you have.

Parting Thought: How could they ABOVE ALL ELSE, Love One Another and the
School this year???
