Casement windows were chosen for the eastern rooms along
the northern facade for their capabilities as “gills” which allow
the building to breathe whilst being controllable during windy
conditions. Edmond roof ventilating outlet grilles visible in the
ceilings ventilate from the rooms directly. They can be closed
in winter so that warm air doesn’t escape.
