Fair Lawn Repeats as Overall

Bergen County Champ
By Vince Albrecht
HACKENSACK, NJ – Defending title-holder Fair Lawn built a huge
morning three-game block, then had to hold off a surging Indian Hills
quintet in the afternoon threesome to repeat as Bergen County overall
champion. In the AM traditional three-games, the Cutters’ fifth bowler
junior Kun Hee Lim fared well enough in support of his torrid team-
mates to ensure the win. Indian Hills caught fire in the afternoon to pass
Teaneck, Pascack Valley and Bergen Tech, but had too many pins to
make up and had to settle for second place.
In Group 1-2, defending champion North Arlington was unable to stay
with Mahwah and Fort Lee and finished in third. In the AM session,
Mahwah’s Thunderbirds fell sixty-nine pins behind Fort Lee’s
Bridgemen who blazed to a 3013 set, closing with games of 1028-1029.
Paired with Teaneck in the afternoon and next to the lanes housing Fort
Lee and Fair Lawn, Mahwah was well aware that Fort Lee still had a
slight lead entering the tenth frame. The Thunderbirds’ two-handed lefty,
senior Eric Grunblatt figured he had to strike out to win and he didn’t
falter, clearing the deck with a double and then a nine-count, enough to
give Mahwah a one-point victory, it’s first ever Group 1-2 crown.
Northern Highlands’ junior Jake Sedor flirted with perfection, but left a
pin on his eleventh delivery and settled for 289, the tournament’s high
game. North Arlington senior Eric McKenna blasted 719 [230-268-221]
to earn high series.
