G60 Disc Conversion (C216 G60 Drum to C200 MQ/MK Disc)

All,

After many snippets of information from people who have told people that you can do a
MQ/MK disc conversion for a 60 series Patrol. I’m about to tell you all the truths of the
project.

Have started today (and yesterday) to start the process and start confusing myself , as I
work out the truths of the conversion.

Here we go ! As this moves along I will update the 1st post and all your comments can
sit below.

If anyone has done this before please PM me so I can pick ya brains

Thanks

Steve

Nothing Special just removing the wheel.
Disc Conversion 003, 004, 005
Undo the flat head screws and remove the freewheeling hub. These are a different
design from most modern 4wds. Interesting!!!
Disc Conversion 006, 007
Next bit is mounting spacer for the freewheeling hub, don’t know the official name.
Disc Conversion 008, 009
Now I thought I had to remove this lock ring which you don’t have to touch. You need
to get this C-Clip off.

Remove the rear bolts and also the top and bottom bearings that hold the hub onto the
axle housing.
Disc Conversion 014, 015, 016
The complete hub will now come off (it weight around 20kg so be ready for it. In my
case the c-clip was still on and so the complete axle came out as well.

Misc photos of the swivel housing and grease, I hate grease

Comparison photos of the disc/ hub and drum/ hub units
Disc Conversion 026, 027, 028
Comparison photos long side front inner axles, 1st photo has the far end of the axle at
the same spot, the 2nd still has the far end at the same spot showing the different
lengths, and the last is lining up the birfield joint at the same spot.

Well been inside thinking about how to do this. After doing some searching one bloke had
custom inner axles made up I guess to graft the G60 diff spline to the MQ outer inner axle.

Can't work outside as it's dark so been tinkering with the hubs, axles, freewheeling hubs. Tried
bolting the G60 freewheeling hub on the MQ hub but dosnt fit.

Then looked at the cog that slides on the inner axle. Took these two cogs out from the free
wheeling ubs. They are both the same inside diametre. The outer teeth look the same but will
need to test later.

Will try in daylight reassembling the G60 cog in the MQ freewheeling hub with spaces, another
option depending on length is to possibly shorten the G60 axle, maybe shorten the G60 cog
which is the larger of the two.

Again if someone has done this before I want to talk with you.
