Dear Friend,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is an
account in the Bible that really speaks to my heart. So often we look at our
circumstances and think it could never change. The Bible does not ignore the
facts of our situations, but we read the Lord was never hindered by the needs
either. A person once told me that everything we encounter in life is a test. Will
we pass the test or fail?
John 6 was a test for the disciples. After a miraculous healing campaign,
the Lord brought the disciples up into a mountain. And when He lifted up His
eyes, He saw a great company of people come to Him. He said to Philip,
"Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?" (we read a little later that
there were about 5,000 men, not including women and children). Did you ever
face a situation where you knew right well that you did not have the means to
meet the need and got nervous? What the Lord asked of Philip was impossible.
To feed so many seemed hopeless. His answer to the Lord's question was, "Two
hundred pennyworth (about $280 dollars) of bread is not sufficient for them,
that every one of them may take a little." He was right. It probably would cost
several thousands of dollars to feed all those people. Andrew, Peter's brother,
said, "There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small
fishes: but what are they among so many?" Can you imagine? 5 little loaves
of bread and 2 small fishes was enough to feed the young lad and maybe a
friend. Certainly not any more than that! But the boy was willing to give his
lunch to the Lord Jesus by faith. After all, He could do anything! The boy did not
see the situation as impossible. All he knew was that the Lord Jesus had just
healed a multitude of people miraculously and there was nothing He could not
do!
The Master had something to work with! The faith of a young lad, willing
to give Him all he had, was all the Lord needed. I have asked myself that
question several times over the years. "Am I willing to give the Lord my all?"
Are you willing to give the Lord your all? Sometimes the only thing I could give
the Lord was my heart. But that is all He really wanted anyway. He gave me a
car to drive, a house to live in, clothes to wear; all these things are too small and
limited for Him anyway! But what He really wants is our hearts. If He can have
our hearts, there is no telling what He can do with a heart surrendered to Him.
He told the disciples to make the men sit down on the grass. "And Jesus took
the loaves; and when He had given thanks, He distributed to the disciples,
and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as
much as they would." Something great was taking place here. The Lord of
provision was fulfilling His line of work. He was about His Father's business,
meeting the needs of those who needed Him.
You may ask, "How did He do that?" Notice first of all that when He
received the lad's lunch He gave thanks. A thankful heart goes a long way with
God. If the Lord gave thanks for all things, maybe I should, too. Thankfulness
changes the atmosphere around you to the possibilities of a miracle! His
thankfulness was not limited to adults. He gave thanks: more than one. I believe
He thanked the lad and I am sure He thanked the Father before them all. In a
previous newsletter, I mentioned how John noted later on of that place "...where
they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks." John was so
impressed with the Lord giving thanks and creating this miracle that he referred
back to it. I believe he never forgot that incident. I tend to believe he tried to
make it a part of his ministry, his lifestyle. If you give anybody anything, give
thanks. Before you give someone a piece of your mind, give thanks. A thankful
attitude is wisdom; it is right, it does put you in a position of receiving good
things in life and from the Lord Himself!
He gave thanks, which was a great blessing to all. I believe the mood that
day was joyous and satisfying. I believe the Lord set the tone for how everyone
received from His bounty that day. Let me encourage you today to be thankful. I
am sure that if you are your whole day will not only be blessed, but others
around you will be blessed as well. "Oh give thanks unto the Lord, for He is
good: for His mercy endureth forever" (Psalm 107:1).
Let me invite you to our services. We meet on Sunday at 10 am and 7 pm,
and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. May God bless you!
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
