FT420 Surge Protection

General Information
In certain locations power surges on external wire connections
may damage the FT420, like any other electronic equipment.
These damaging surges are typically caused by switching high
power equipment, as in factories, or by lightning. This bulletin
describes a method for protecting against moderate power surg-
es. Note that this level of surge protection is inadequate for direct
lightning strikes or other large power surges.

Connection Instructions

Connect the flow meter to the FT420 with

shielded twisted pair wire

Attach shields at the FT420 end and ground to

the power supply earth ground

Attach power supply with shielded twisted pair

wire

Place CR2, zener diode (Digi-Key 1N5350BRLOSCT)

across the FT420 sensor input; banded end must
connect to S as shown
IMPORTANT:
Place CR1 Bidirectional zener diode (Digi-Key Connect Power Supply ground to a
P6KE30CA) across the FT420 power input reliable Earth Ground
