Central Park
Central park is the biggest park in New York, and one of the most beautiful in the World.
It’s situated between New York and Manhattan.
History
Frederic Low Olmestd was a writer and a British architect, Calvert Vaux. Sculpture was
edited by Jacob Wrey Mould and Andrew Haswell Green.

LOCATION
New York City is located in north east of USA, and in south east of New York
state.
Between New York and France, there are 6 hours time differences, because this
city is located in the eastern zone of USA.

-Manhattan
-Brooklyn
-Queens
-The Bronx
-Staten Island
New York State unites ethnies and cultures: in this city, many origins are
grouped in living quarters, like Little Italy, Chinatown or El barrio

NICKNAMES
The name of this city was attributed because of the duke of York, in the 1660's.
Several nicknames can be attributed to New York City, like « the city that never
sleeps »
or « the empire state » ( because of its wealth and resources ), but the most
famous nickname of New York City is « the big apple », because many Jazz
musicians became famous here. One said: « there are many apples on the tree,
but only the big apple ».

THE SHIELD: There is a blue sky with a large sun, behind the 3 highlands of the
Hudson River, because of commerce.
ABOVE THE SHIELD, there is an eagle on a globe. That eagle faces right, there is a
good omen.
ON THE RIGHT, the godless « justice », whose is carrying the scale of justice and
is blindfolded
ON THE LEFT, the godless « liberty », she wears the Phrygian cap, and there is a
crown on her foot.
New York is also famous for its iron staircases, its ads on the roofs and its yellow
taxis, but also by its buildings, including the Empire State Building (488 metres
high) and its monuments like the World Trade Center, the Statue of Liberty and
Twin Towers, the privileged destination for tourists before September 11, 2001.
This city is very visited by many possibilities (subways, ferry, helicopters …). A
street can be 10kms long!!!
That’s at New York there is the most sports teams of USA, such as baseball,
football, hockey, … Is also where is the US open tournament.

On the crown there are seven rays, the seven rays represent the seven seas
and continents of the world.
The admission for people is 12$ for adults, 10$ for senior and 5$ for children.
William Van Alen is the architect who designed Chrysler Building and its spires.
With its spires the Chrysler Building was the highest building of the world
(319meters)
Before this consolidation, the city which knows numerous crises, is the theater of
diverse conflicts, but manages to win gradually, in importance, in the point to
establish biggest city of the United States and is one of the most dynamic city of
the world today, demographic but also as a leading decision-making center and as the
world capital of the finance and the stock exchange.
Then the piece of New Amsterdam was renamed New York in honor of Jacques
II of England Duke of York who had acquired the place of his brother. Colonel
Richard Nicollls so became the first British governor of the city of New York.
In 1664, New York was an English colony. Before English arrived, Indians lived.in
New York
After the upper Manhattan Battle of fort Washington in 1776 the city became
the British military and political base of operation in North America and a place for
Loyalist refuges, until military occupation ended in 1783.
The city of New York had its independence in 1904.
This city was the capital of United States from 1776-1783. And its first
president was Georges Washington.
Henry Hudson was sent to 1609 by oriental company of India so that he discovers
a new seaway towards India.
He arrives to Manhattan on September 11th. He crosses by New
York bay and goes back up the river which carries its name to
Albany today, before reach India by this road.
Another character mattering in the history of New York it is
Verrazano. He was the first European who investigated New York.
