PURPOSE
• Maintain liner 30ºC (50ºF) below billet
temperature to reduce direct billet
surface inflow onto the profile, reducing
scrap from surface finish
• Reduce container and die slide effect With a quick response container, the focus of its thermal control system
on die temperature and resulting profile is on the liner, not the mantle.
run-out, reducing scrap from shape
deformation • The temperature is measured and managed in several control zones,
vertical as well as horizontal.
• Stabilize container and container housing
temperatures which effect hot press • Heat is added when and where it is required. Cartridge heaters are
alignment positioned close to the liner.
• Minimize energy usage and extend life of • Double acting thermocouples are located between the heaters and the
container mantle, liner and dummy block liner. They monitor temperatures at the entry and exit of the liner, both
top and bottom, and the temperature of the heaters.
FUNCTION • The time taken to respond to a demand for heat is, of course, in direct

the process.
• The liner is heated when and where necessary; and an improved billet
temperature consistency is maintained as the alloy enters the die,
which is key to achieving product consistency both metallurgical
and dimensionally.
Thermocouples
Castool uses 4 double acting thermocouples located equidistant between
the heating elements and liner; positioned in the mantle exit top and
bottom, and entrance top and bottom.
