4. Subcommittee and Appendix Ballot Progress Reports:

4.1 ACI 211-A, Proportioning – Editorial: Frank Kozeliski (03/23 @ 10a-12P

Suite 830) Want to ballot document in June and send to TAC in July. Jessie with
staff discussed “Standardized Doc” requirements. Allyn Luke (Sec 6) moved
pages of notation to front of document to simplify. Discussed terminology of mass
verses weight. In US weight is the common nomenclature but we will use metric
a place (weight). Review team set up to cleanup document. No redlines, starting
clean. Bryan Castle volunteered to help Gary with metric sample.

TAC comment on charts – just reference it came from previous doc tables.

So as to not bog down appendix, committee will break out “Assessing Aggregate
Gradations” as separate document.

4.2 ACI 211-C, Proportioning – No Slump: Jim Blankenship (03/23 @ 8a-10a

Suite 930) Tim Folks & Jim Pierce to help, cleanup but not rewrite, needs
reapproval. Want ballot by May 1, Pulled out Appendix 3 (RCC) and Appendix 6
(Pervious). Document will keep rooftile and masonry units.

4.3 ACI 211-E, Proportioning – Evaluation: Mike Whisonant (03/23 @ 11:30a-

1p Parlor E) Got document thru but committee is changing from an appendix to a
stand-alone document. Sections were divided for references and additions will
be added so document can be returned to Gary in May. Reballot changes only!
Get to TAC this spring. Remind them it has been approved as Appendix and
reformat only as new stand alone doc. Remind Jessie when sent to TAC that
it was previously OKed!

4.4 ACI 211-F, Proportioning – Submittal: John Cook (03/23 @ 2p-4p Suite
830) Working toward performance submittals. Challenge of proportioning
submittal without any proportions. Set up with performance based first and fall
back to traditional prescriptive second. E702 working on “submittal concrete
aids”(Joe Almond)?

4.5 ACI 211-I, Assessing Aggregate Gradation: Jay Shilstone (03/23 @ 1p-3p
Parlor D) – Jay not present. Gary made comments stating the document should
be ready for ballot in June and to TAC by July.

4.6 ACI 211-M, Aggregate Packing: Konstantin Sobolev was not present, no
report given.

4.7 ACI 211-N Proportioning Ground Limestone & Material Fillers - Don
Powell (03/23@ 3p-5p@ Parlor D) 21 attended this first sub-committee meeting.
Plan to get the existing studies, reports & doc into committees hand by next
meeting. Hope to have draft by Fall meeting and setup TGs.

4.8 ACI 211-P Proportioning for Pumpable Concrete - Joe Kelley (03/22 @
3:30p-5p @ Parlor B) 8 attended the first sub-committee meeting. Joe Bury has
started a draft of the document, working on body of document. We need to added
section to make a stand alone document. This document is very appropriate.

Ava reviewed the draft and commented “looks great”. Can we change
“engineered mix design” to “mix proportions”? Comments on 211.1 page 20 in
3.2 “water content” document stresses water additions. Page 20, line 10 “In
properly proportioned concrete…”. “Using water reducing admixtures … can
increase slump while maintaining W/C”. Page 24, line 10, “low water content…”
we want workable slump and low W/C. Line 12 “strength” comment should not
be in this paragraph. Line 19 “design” used instead of “mix proportions”. Line
XX “SF reduces heat of hydration”, she disagrees, not her experience.

4.9 Appendix 3 Laboratory Test – Robert Jenkins

Appendix 3 will stay with the main document.
.
4.10 Appendix 4 High Density (Heavyweight) – Bryan Castles
Appendix 4 needs to stay with the main document. TAC comments were all
editorial. Changed name of main document by removing “Mass“, since mass
concrete appendix 5 has moved to committee 207

4.11 Work assignments and planning for 2010 Deadline:

Mike Boyle to work on cement curves for future document. Could use as a
technical bulletin or eLearning.

Eric – Aggregate packing and selecting aggregates. Possible eLearning several

people working on it and will accept additional help. Draft by next meeting.

Katie Bartojay asked how the transferred appendix (Appendix 5- Mass Concrete )
are to be used? What is intention of how the other documents are to

incorporate? Gary and Tim are to send information on Appendix 5 “Mass

Concrete” to Mike Wisonant and Katie Bartojay.
