Five Day Workshop on

Applications of Internet of Things (IOT) in Electrical Engineering

22nd to 26st September - 2017

A 5 day workshop on applications of Internet Of Things (IOT) in electrical

engineering was conducted by Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department in
association with Technologics, Bangalore, AITS IEEE Student Chapter & Industrial
Interaction Cell, AITS from 22nd to 26th September 2017. The total 77 participants have
participated in this workshop from III B.Tech. The workshop commenced with welcome
speech by Dr. M. Padmalalitha, Head of the Department of EEE and Prof. Abdula Rahim,
Coordinator for professional bodies, AITS and welcomed the Expert team, participants and
explained the objectives and importance of the workshop.

About Resource Persons: Er. Devendra, Er. Ritesh, Technical Trainers from
Technologics, Bangalore was industrial experts and shared their insights, real life scenarios,
practical use cases and their solutions on Internet of Things and Hands on Development using
various IoT kits. First session started with keynote lecture on IoT and future of connected
world by the session was spread over first half of session-I and it provided the insights of IoT
applications for smart home, smart cities, smart light etc… then he formed a few teams of
participants for next 5 days & provided IoT kit for starting hands on session.

Students who attended the workshop will be able to perform the following:

 What “the Internet of Things” means and how it relates to Cloud computing concepts
 How open platforms allow you to store your sensor data in the Cloud
 The basic usage of the Arduino environment for creating your own embedded projects
at low cost
 How to send data to the Internet and talk to the Cloud.
 How to update sensor readings on Twitter (Social Networking Sites).
 Control a Relay Switch by texting from your Phone.

Day- 1

The resource person started with introduction of PCB Designing and explained the pointers to
make precise PCB layout design. The afternoon session was Hands-on, where the participants
provided with laboratory sessions on Schematic design & PCB layout design using copper
boards. The participants also tried various demo circuits provided by Er. Devendra. He also
explains various circuits which can be used often by students and motivates students to keep
designing such circuits.

Day- 2

Toner Transfer Method: This is the step where the designed circuit will be pasted on the
wafer and this will be passed through a temperature of about 160 to 180 degrees so that the
tracks of the circuit will be remained on the wafer. The tracks will be a conductive type.
Drilling Technique: The board will be drilled with holes where the components have to be
placed; the holes will be drilled in the board depending on the terminals available for the
components in the design. The hole should be in the size so that the terminal has to be freely
placed in the hole. Soldering Technique: The components that are placed in the board should
be soldered to the track so that the circuit is connected as per the design. After this step the
engraved PCB will be ready to use.
