Year 7 Science Curriculum Overview

ACG School Jakarta offers a broad, general middle school Science programme for Year 7-9 based on the
Cambridge Curriculum. Students will gain knowledge and experience in all 3 Science strands; Biology,
Chemistry and Physics. These strands are explored to an appropriate level, which offers students a foundation
of knowledge for preparation for IGCSE. A forth strand, Scientific Enquiry is taught as an integral part of the
Science curriculum and helps to encompass all strands of Science in an inter-disciplinary fashion using literacy
and numeracy skills.

Each topic is assessed using a variety of assessment tools including class tests, presentations, homework
assignments and many more. An ‘Assessment Schedule’ is available for each year level.

The Year 7 curriculum is outlined below:

Assessment

Semester One grade calculated as follows:

1. 1 graded practical including report (20%)


2. End of unit assessment 1 – research task and presentation (25%)
3. End of unit assessment 2 – summative question paper (25%)
4. Classwork and engagement – (30%)

Semester Two grade calculated as follows:

1. 1 graded practical including report (20%)


2. End of unit assessment 4 – summative question paper (20%)
3. End of unit assessment 5 – summative question paper (20%)
4. Famous Scientist Task – (10%)
5. Classwork and engagement – (30%)

Prizes in Science

There are 2 prizes available which will be given out at Prizegiving in Term 4. We select the winners
based on the following criteria:

Endeavour – The greatest improvement. This award will be given to open-minded, caring, principled
students who have tried their very best.

Excellence – Calculated from the highest average grade taken from Midyear and End Of Year
examinations. This award will be given to knowledgeable and inquiring students who demonstrate
good thinking skills in assessment.
