On
Science Competitions in M-25 Schools, Krishna District Feb 2019

Shriram foundation has been continuously promoting Participatory and Hands-0n learning
through Science experiments and Training science teachers of the M-25 schools.

This academic year foundation has taken one more step in its pursuit by organizing Inter School
Science Model Making competitions in M-25 schools.

What & Who – Inter School Science Competitions by Shriram Foundation aimed to test the
creativity, Scientific Attitude in the students of M-25 schools.

Categories: Competition was held for 2 categories.

A) Upper Primary (5th, 6th & 7th classes)


B) High School (8th &9th classes)

Foundation has made the announcement of competitions on 12th February and received great
response from schools. SF Team has identified and planned the following themes for Science
Competitions.

The Theme and Sub Themes:

JUNIORS

1. Recycling of water, materials, and solid wastes.

2. Self-regulating water harvesting system/rainwater harvesting and storage in a manner that


evaporation and transportation losses are minimized.

3. Development of low-cost technology for producing potable water.

4. Preservative and conservative methods for soil degradation and judicious use of water.
5. Innovative/inexpensive/improved/ indigenous technologies/ methods of
storage/preservation/conservation/ transport of agricultural products and food materials.

SENIORS

1. Recycling of water, materials, and solid wastes.

2. Self-regulating water harvesting system/rainwater harvesting and storage in a manner that


evaporation and transportation losses are minimized.

3. Devices that control air/water/land pollution and technologies to manage them.

4. Models to control loss of natural resources due to mismanagement/ disasters, etc.

5. Working models to demonstrate equipment/processes/devices/ technologies/ designs, which


may help facilitate the domestic work. 6. Working model of effective drainage system for
clearance of sewage.

How - 25 schools have been divided into 5 clusters Covered by Shriram team in 2 days.

The cluster level competition was organized in 5 Places (Schools).The following is the schedule.

The exhibition witnessed the participation of 500 students and 200 plus models. The exhibits
were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising of Shriram team and a Science resource person
Mr.Sai Krishna (Science Faculty) .

In this Competition, the participating teams shared their creative ideas and solutions to everyday
challenges through their innovative working models, exhibits, and presentations. It was
heartening to notice that the students had been inspired to conceptualize and initiate their
personal scientific journey through self-motivation and with a concern for sustainability and
inclusivity.

The efforts and skills of participants, teachers and schools have been duly rewarded by
Foundation in the form of Participation Prizes. The school with best model has won a special
prize in every cluster.

Teachers and school managements have provided the feedback that the display of models was
like a feast to eyes. The competitions have helped them to bring out the hidden talent in children
and portray the same to parents in Parent teacher Meetings (PTM’s).

Being a cluster Level Competition, It has become a nice platform for the M-25 school to show
their competitive spirit and strengthen each other through mutual support.
