Title of Lesson: Kandinsky Trees

Goal Statement:
- Day 1: I can learn about the art room center tubs and the
difference between geometric and organic shapes.
- Day 2: I can continue to work on my Kandinsky Trees
drawing.
- Day 3: I can finish and frame my Kandinsky Trees drawing.

Objectives (Specify skills/information that will be learned):


- Explore geometric shapes
- Explore organic shapes

Information (Given and/or demonstrate necessary information):


- Day 1: Once the students are seated, read the goal to
them.
- Day 1: Go over the different center tubs in the art room.
Explain to the students we only use the center tubs
when we are done with the assignment. Also explain to
them that if they hurry through the assignment that
they will not be using the center tubs.
- Day 1: Once you have gone through the center tubs,
introduce the next element of art, shape.
- Day 1: Handout the shape worksheet.
- Day 1: Go through the shape worksheet on the
smartdoc camera with the students.
- Day 1: Demonstrate to the students the Kandinsky
Trees assignment that you would like them to create.
- Day 1: If time, have students at least get their paper
and put their name and class code on the back.
- Day 2: Have a student read the goal off of the board.
- Day 2: Have students get right to work on their
drawings.
- Day 3: Have a student read the goal off of the board.
- Day 3: Have students finish their drawings and frame.
- Day 3: Assess if another day is needed to finish this
project.
Verification (Steps to check for student understanding):
- Check to make sure students are paying attention
when you are demonstrating.
- Check to make sure the students are understanding
the difference between organic and geometric shapes.
- Check to make sure students are watching when you
demonstrate what they will be doing for their
assignment.
- Check to makes sure students are doing the
assignment correctly.

Activity (Describe the independent activity to reinforce this


lesson):
- The independent part of this lesson is letting the
students decide what colors they would like to use and
what kind of shapes they would like to use.

Contingency Plan (Done early/Not enough time):


- If students are done early. I will encourage them to
keep decorating their picture.
- If there is not enough time, I will have the students
continue this lesson during the next class time.

- 16x10 white paper
- Various size and various colors of construction paper
- Crayons
- Colored Pencils
- Sharpies
- Pencils
- Construction paper to frame
