Focus on the characters:

GENERAL ANTONIO LUNA

1. Who was General Antonio Luna?

2. What official posts did he hold in the
Revolutionary Army?
3. Compared to other films of the same genre
or theme, Heneral Luna presents a very
human Antonio Luna. In what ways did
this presentation of heroism affect or change
the way you look at our nation’s heroes?
4. General Luna’s impetuousness and violent temper won him enemies
and admirers.
These faults notwithstanding, what sterling qualities of Luna are much needed in our
country’s leadership?
5. How did Luna’s background influence his notions of nation and nationhood?

PRESIDENT EMILIO AGUINALDO

1. Who was President Emilio Aguinaldo?

2. Based on what you have seen on the film,
what kind of leader was President Aguinaldo?
3. How did his favoritism in the army affect the war
campaign against the Americans?
4. Based on the available historical evidences,
was he involved in the assassination of General Antonio
Luna?
5. If his name had been stained by the blood of the Bonifacio brothers and General
Antonio Luna, how should we regard President Aguinaldo and his role in Philippine
history?

APOLINARIO MABINI
1. Who was Apolinario Mabini? What crucial roles
did he play in the Revolution and the Malolos Republic?
2. Despite his disapproval of General Luna’s
methods, Mabini was also a staunch advocate of
independence. Luna’s assassination should be seen
in a broader context. Before he travelled to
Cabanatuan, Mabini was removed from his cabinet
post. Which faction dominated the Aguinaldo
government at that point? How did these developments
affect our campaign against the Americans?
3. In the film, how did Epy Quizon show Mabini’s disillusionment with Aguinaldo’s
leadership?

1. Who was Felipe Buencamino?

2. General Luna accused Felipe Buencamino of
treason when he presented the autonomy
proposal of the Schurman Commission in their
cabinet meeting. General Luna cited the Malolos
Constitution to buttress his charge that Buencamino is
selling the country to the Americans because he is
willing to negotiate with them. Was General Luna correct?

Focus on the Film

1. In one scene, General Luna played his guitar by the window, in front of the moon.
Aside from its historical truthfulness (Antonio was a talented musician), why was
that scene noteworthy?
2. The brutally honest depiction of Antonio Luna’s death in the hands of the soldiers
of the Kawit Brigade is haunting. That seemingly endless ritual of shooting,
stabbing and hacking the hapless general is historically accurate. Why do you
think did the film makers decide to show it for what it was? What message did
they want to convey?
3. In the beginning of the film, the Philippine flag is very clean. As the story
progressed, the flag becomes stained. At the end of the film, it burned.
What do you think is the significance of this?

Good Luck! 
 General Antonio Luna is the leader of the revolutionary army in the
Philippines. He was appointed by the president Emilio Aguinaldo.
 If the soldier will not follow him he will kill all of them because some of them
don’t listen to him.
 The movie shows that even a hero have their own bad side.
 We need a strong hearted leader that will able to lead our country and have a
unbreakable rule.
 Because of his strong heart the urge of the fellow Filipinos to fight for our
country also build up
 He is the president of the Philippines that help free to the Spaniards.
 Ge was a great leader of the country. Feel want the country needs and try to
have a better country.
 He trusted Gen. Luna to fight to free our country to Americans. Americans
want the Philippines and Luna was the one fighting for our freedom
 I think Aguinaldo is not connected to Luna’s assassination. Some of the part in
the sits I think is the one who ordered to kill Gen. Luna.
 As I said even hero has their own dark side but still Emilio Aguinaldo bring us
to our freedom who we are right now.
 He was the Presidents adviser the one who advice the president what’s the
best choice he will choose.
 The Americans was the one gaining about Gen. Luna’s death. It affects the
campaign to Americans because even in the cabinet they are fighting against
each other.
 Despite his disability, he continued serving the Philippines in his capacity as a
government official and negotiated the country’s independence with the
United States. With the talks failed, he supported war against Americans and
was subsequently exiled to Guam in 1901.
 During the Philippine Revolution, lawyer Felipe Buencamino, Sr. was one of
those who sided with the Spaniards until the conquistadors imprisoned him.
He later joined the Filipino camp and even became Aguinaldo’s cabinet
member.
 Yes Gen Luna is correct he was a traitor before you never change the fact
that once a traitor always a traitor. He wants to be colonize by the Americans.
 Along with the music that comes from his strings, we see Luna’s blank,
detached persona. Makes me wonder if he even hears his own music. But we
get hypnotized with him as he strums along. Along with the music, too, are
occasional gunshot sounds off-cam. This is dramatic irony at its finest. Music,
being regarded as peaceful, patterned, and embellished becomes juxtaposed
to something extremely mysterious, violent and fatal. This scene is very
unapologetic, yet delivers home a point; that is – all is fair in romance,
nostalgia and war.
 You will not know who will kill you. Even you comrades will kill you in
exchange of money. The people who envy you and the people who hate you
will do anything to bring you down.
 You fight your own fellow countrymen. You die for it but nothing happens
because we do not cooperate with each other. We need to help and support
each other in order to win a battle.
