One Inch At A Time

Around the awkward age of 14 is when alot of teenagers


start to worry about their appearance, weight included. Most
teenage boys want to gain muscle so they can impress the
girls with their bodies. Teenage girls however start worrying
about losing weight because they do not look like the girls
in the magazines. The period of adolescents is already hard
enough; but becoming self conscious and starving yourself
just adds a little bit more stress to being a teenager.

Girls starving themselves to stay thin is unncessary, usu-


ally becuase the girls who are starving themselves are typi-
cally not the obese girls. Teenagers on average need between
1,600 and 2,500 calories. Depending on the height, weight,
and the amount of energy that they use in a day. If they are
not getting these calories then they are harming their bod-
ies; much more than if they were eating three meals. Alot of
the time it is the unhealthy snacks that teenagers consume
which adds the extra pounds.

At that age they should not be worried about being thin, bec-
uase their bodies are still changing and growing. Basically
all they need is three balanced meals a day and they will be
fine. Being active also helps maintain a healthy weight. Just
by doing simple things like drinking alot of water or walking
your dog around the neighborhood you remain healthy and
strong.

fast so you feel full earlier. They are also low in calories and helps to keep your calorie count low. It is recom-

Eating small frequent meals help to balance your calorie intake throughout the day and also keeps your blood
sugar level balanced. Instead of eating 3 big meals, try to eat 5 - 6 smaller meals throughout the day.

Eat More Fresh Foods

If possible, purchase fresh foods and avoid package (processed) and convenient foods such as fast food. Pack-
aged and convenient foods are often higher in sodium and fat content. Many people are amazed that they can
easily lose weight by packing a home-cooked lunch to work instead of eating out.


Don’t Be Gullible With Food Labels

A product labeled with a fat-free claim does not mean that it is low in calories. Similarly a product labeled as
low-sugar or low-carb does not mean it is low in fat or calories. Always read the nutrition label on the packaging.

Why Do You Drink Sugar?

Juices, soda, cream & sugar in your coffee or tea all add up. You might as well be putting sugar into a glass
and drink that; becuase that is just as unhealthy. If you wouldn’t drink sugar from the bag then why would you
drink masqueraded sugar. Try drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. In addition to providing hydration to
your body, it will also help you feel full, so you will be less likely to eat more unhealthy foods.

Let’s Get Physical!

Most health experts recommend 30 - 60 minutes of physical activity a day to stay healthy. Also try adding
weight-bearing exercises at least 2 times a week. This will help burn some of the unwanted calories and help
you to become slim and trim.
