Lesson title: Body Parts
Type of lesson: Mixed lesson
Lesson (main) aims: - to acquire new words;
- to revise the previous taught information
- to practice conversation;
Subsidiary aims: - to practice work in pairs;
- to use intuition & imagination;
- to get used with speaking in English
Skills: speaking, reading, writing, listening.
Anticipated language problems: Pupils/students could become a bit noisy when working in
pairs/groups. In some cases, pupils may not understand the task given by the teacher. Students
may have hesitations and may not understand the tasks given. They can also become impatient
when they are being given the hand-outs.
Possible solutions: The teacher may repeat a couple of times what the task is in order pupils to
have a better understanding on the concept. While working in pairs, she may check every group
to see if they are any misunderstanding of the task. She may repeat the task in order to be clearly
for everybody. Before giving them the hand-out, the teacher should give them the instructions.
Teaching aids: the blackboard, handouts, pupils' notebooks;

Activity 1 - Warm up
Aim: To revise unit "Hello!"
Procedure: The teacher enters the classroom, greets the pupils and ask some of them how they are
doing. The chosen pupils are supposed to answer teacher's questions in English as they were
taught during previous lessons.

Activity 2 - Checking Homework


Aim: To check if the students resolved the task for home.
Procedure: The teacher checks if the students have done the homework from the previous
lecture, related to dialogues + family members. The students are invited to answer and the
teacher corrects them or explains again if she considers necessarily. They will also be
invited to write their answers on the board.

Activity 3 - Introducing new vocabulary


Aim: To connect with the new lesson, to introduce new vocabulary words related to the theme of
the lesson.
Procedure: The teacher writes the title of the lesson on the board and asks the pupils to do the
same. Pupils are encouraged to imagine that somebody asks them which the parts of the body are.
After they revise the words in their minds, they will loudly state their answers (in Romanian) by
raising hands. The teacher draws a silhouette on the board and by drawing arrows, she states the
most important body parts: eye, tooth, mouth, nose, lip, chin, ear, neck, arm, hand, finger, leg,

foot, toe. She also writes the pronunciation of the words in brackets and encourage students to
spell them.

Activity 4 – Guided production


Aim: To be able to identify the body parts
Procedure: The students are being given instructions for the next activity. They are being given
the handouts (Annex 1). They are demanded to work individually. They have to complete the
handouts by filling in the gaps with the right word. After they finish, they will be randomly
chosen to answer until every student does his/her target.

Activity 5 - Free production


Aims: To straighten the new vocabulary, to practice working in pairs.
Procedure: The teacher asks students to work in group of two. Each group is demanded to solve
the crossword on the handout's verso. They have to find as many body parts as they can in 10
minutes.

Activity 6 - Revision + Homework assignment


Aims: To repeat the theory and the spelling of the new vocabulary.
Procedure: The students are asked to spell the new words once again. After that, they are being
given indications about what they have to do at home with the aid of the notes they have been
writing during the lecture.

Timing: 3 minutes.
