CROSS LAMINATED WOOD (CLT)

Cross Laminate Wood (CLT) is a wooden panel that typically consists of three, five or
seven layers of dimension lumber oriented at right angles to each other and then glued
together to form structural panels with exceptional strength, dimensional stability, and
rigidity. It can be manufactured to customized dimensions and sizes of the panels vary
according to the manufacturer and end customer, the sizes must be proportional since
they must be taken into account at the moment of being transported.

A RENEWABLE RESOURCE

It is a sustainable material because it is

composed of wood, a renewable resource and
does not require the burning of fossil fuels during
its production. Its use has started for pieces of
infrastructure, support in large construction
sites, as forms for concrete bridges or even as
bases for tractors in unstable terrain, in the
construction of dams, for example. Its potential
for small constructions has now been noted due
to its interesting appearance and good structural
strength.
USES OF CRUMBLED LAMINATED WOOD

They can be used as walls, floors, furniture,

coverings and ceilings. Its thickness and length
can be adapted to the demands of each project.
Generally, panels made of CLT are assembled and
cut in their production, and already provide for
the joints, openings and perforations specified in
the design. Being a solid panel composed of a
single material, the structure is already the
coating of the project, which reduces the need for
labor and materials for its final appearance.
Transparent waterproofing.

BENEFITS OF CLT

 Decrease in pollution since fossil fuels are not used.

 Renewable Material (Reforestation)

 Precision of cuts and finishes

 Low costs

 Discharge in project delivery times

 Quality control and cleaning

IN CASE OF FIRE?

CLT can be designed to achieve a fire rating of

30, 60 or 90 minutes. In a fire, a carbonized layer
forms around a non-destroyed core that retains
its charge capacity, thus reducing the entry of
oxygen and heat from the outside, which
significantly delays the propagation of the
flame. The inherent fire resistance of transverse
laminated wood makes it the only structural
wood solution to meet the REI classes of fire
resistance.

SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURE
• Wood Innovation Design
Center (WIDC) is the first tall
wooden building in Canada. The
tower has eight floors and 29.5
meters high, and is the tallest
wooden building in North
America.

Advantages in terms of presicion
• It is achieved through the use of
computer numerical control (CNC)
machines that cut the panels using data
from 3D CAD drawings. They are then
sent on site and installed by the CLT
installers. The panels are created with
such a high degree of precision, so that
the glazing for the windows can already
be requested from the initial drawings.
• Building a house with CLT is fast, clean
and the panels are easy to assemble on
site.

Note

"The construction of wood from sustainably

grown forests offers rapidly renewable energy
and an efficient alternative to absorb carbon,
and the use of wood for large structures
would significantly reduce greenhouse gas
emissions worldwide."
Conclusión

The wood is the material of the future, will reduce the

contamination since for its manufacture fossil fuels are not used,
carbon dioxide is not generated as in the elaboration of other
materials. Wood is a renewable material, we would generate
oxygen due to reforestation.
