Description

A Lead Acid rechargeable lead acid battery powered three wheeled Rickshaw driven by a single 900 Watts
Brushless DC (BLDC) Motor driving the wheels directly through a rear axle + differential setup. The

The vehicle contains 4 batteries of 12 Volts each and 100 Ampere Hour Capacity each.

The motor is driven through a BLDC Motor Controller/Drive which also provides breaking, reverse driving and
battery charge monitoring functions.

The Body is impact resistant, fire retardant, fairly heavy duty plastic bolted on to a combination of tubular
canopy frame / square section chassis ladder frame that is entirely powder coated for durability , rust and
corrosion prevention.
The front suspension is a coil spring reinforced telescopic fork suspension like the suspension that is used in
most Indian low cost motorcycles,

The rear suspension is a set of leaf springs on each rear wheel. The manufacturer claims the leaf springs are
toughened to absorb large impacts while keeping the vehicle stable.

The tyres are low cost nylon cross ply, tube inner tyres mounted on 12 inch steel rims for all three wheels.

Brakes are mechanically activated Drum brakes on all three wheels. The front brake is activated by the brake
lever on the right handle bar. The rear brakes are activated by a foot pedal operated by the driver’s right leg.

A mechanical parking break is provided.

There is no Hydraulic Disc Break on any of the wheels though it is mentioned on the manufacturer’s specification
sheet.

BLDC Motor

The electric motor is a 48V 900W Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) that is made in china. The motor is a
generic BLDC motors and is available from many Indian and Chinese manufactures in India.

The motor is directly coupled to an Unlimited Slip Differential setup connected to the two rear wheels.

There are no Clutch/Gears/Drive shafts and the motor directly drives the wheels through a reduction
gear. The speed is controlled through a handle bar twist speed control, like in a scooter or motorcycle
through the main motor controller and the control is completely electronic.

The E-Rickshaw has 4 12 Volt Lead Acid batteries installed. The batteries are connected in series
providing a total voltage of 48 Volts.

Two batteries are located in the compartment under the driver’s seat and two batteries are located in
the compartment under the rear seat

The batteries are deep discharge Tubular Lead Acid Battery with a charge capacity of 100 Ampere
Hours (AH). The four batteries give the E-Rickshaw a driving range of 60 KM – 90 KM on a full charge
with a load of 250 -350 KG The batteries have a charging time of 10 to 12 hours using the charger
supplied with the E-Rickshaw.

48 Volt battery charger

The Battery Charger supplied with the E-Rickshaw is a Standard SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply)
based charger that is capable of fully charging the four 12 Volts 100 AH Series connected Lead Acid
batteries of the E-RAAJA E-Rickshaw in about 12 Hours from a completely discharged state.

Model number of the charger is C2AK480012. This is a 48 Volt Lead acid battery charger and
cannot be used to charge individual 12 volt lead acid batteries.

The charger is manufactured by AXIOM EV PRODUCTS PVT. LTD. who is also the manufacturer of the main E-
Rickshaw drive controller and the DC-DC convertor used to convert the 48V DC to 12V DC to run the other
subsystems like horn, headlight, tail lights etc. of the E-Rickshaw.

A DC to DC Voltage convertor is installed in the E-Rickshaw to convert the 48 Volt power supplied by
the batteries to 12 Volt for running the various 12 Volt subsystems of the E-Rickshaw. 12 Volts is used
for the Head Light, Horn, Turn Indicators, Parking lights, Break Lights, reversing lights .

The model number of the DC to DC Convertor is B1KK120010 and is manufactured by AXIOM EV


PRODUCTS PVT. LTD., who also manufacture the other electrical sub systems of the E-Rickshaw

6. Chassis and frame:

The Chassis fabricated from square section mild steel that is arc welded . The entire chassis is powder coated to
provide protection from rust and corrosion.

The canopy frame is welded tubular frame welded/bolted to the Chassis. The Canopy frame is powder coated to
prevent rust and corrosion.
7. Suspension:

a. Front Wheel:

Front wheel suspension of the E-Raaja E-Rickshaw using the


telescopic suspension form motorcycles reinforced with additional
coil springs.

The handlebar is directly attached to the front wheel for steering through a Telescopic, Coil spring damped
fork. The Telescopic fork used in the E-Rickshaw is similar or the same as the suspension forks used in the low
cost 100CC motorbikes that are sold in India. The Forks are reinforced with additional damping coil springs to
compensate for the additional weight of the E-Rickshaw as compared to a motorcycle and for safer running on
“Indian” and country roads

The manufacturer claims that the Telescopic forks are heavy duty and provide damping and stability on
uneven roads.

b. Rear Wheels.

using a leaf spring assembly on both
sides

The rear wheels are attached to the Trans Axle assembly which contains the differential and the direct drive
BLDC Motor. The whole rear axle and the wheel assembly is suspended from the ladder chassis frame using a
Leaf Spring assembly on each side. The manufacturer claims that the leaf springs are specially heat treat for
better impact absorption and stability of the E-Rickshaw.

c. Tyers:

Tyers are 3.00-12 Nylon cross ply with


inner tube. Tyres mounted on 12 Inch steel
rims

are bolted to the Hub-Brake Drum assembly using 4 bolts .
