Operating Manual For Ashida Numerical Neutral Ref.: ADR 112Em03
Displacement Protection Relay ADR 112E Rev. : 03 Dt. 03.08.09
1.0 Features : -
• 1 Phase Neutral Displacement Relay.
• Programmable (Non- Volatile) Setting By local keys Back - lit LCD display
for settings.
• Display of Fault Voltage / Load Voltage.
• Voltage Sensing Setting Range – 2.5V to 20V. in steps of 0.5V.
• Compatible for 60Hz frequency monitoring Voltage.
• IDMT Curve.
• Definite Time Curve.
• Design using DSP technology.
• Latching of fault value.
• Pass-word protection for setting.

2.0 General : -
The ADR112E is member of Ashida Numerical Relay family (Aditya Series)
design to meet demand of low and medium switchgear control. The ADR112E is
basically 1 phase neutral voltage protection with IDMT & Definite time. The
ADR112E continuously monitors the phase voltage, through PT connections.
The high-speed micro-controller samples this voltage sine wave through a 12 bit
A/D converter. The micro-controller performs powerful Digital Algorithms to
find out Amplitude of voltage signal, and then this value is use for protection and
metering function. All measurement is tuned to fundamental frequency and
reject all higher harmonics present in electric supply. Each phase voltage is
also displayed on 16 x 2 LCD display for metering. The Relay is having main
three functions 1) Protection 2) Self-Supervision 3) Measurement.

3.0 Protection Function : -

The ADR112E gives maximum benefit / cost ratio. The ADR112E gives all the
advantage of numerical relay at affordable cost. Following is summery of different
protection functions provided by relay.

ANSI IEC Protection Function

59nd - Neutral Unbalance Voltage Protection.

Displacement Protection Relay ADR 112E Rev. : 03 Dt. 03.08.09
3.1 Neutral Displacement :-
The ADR112E has a sensing element, each is connected to monitor phase to
neutral voltage. The tripping voltage can be set to 2.5V to 20V in steps of 0.5V.
Where 100% = rated line to neutral voltage. The display can be programmed to
display primary voltage directly, The relay has got an selectable IDMT time
setting (5 times – 10.5sec) or definite time curve. The high speed CPU
continuously monitor neutral voltage input and compare with NUB setting. If the
voltage is above any setting, CPU starts to calculate time as per IDMT curve and
provides trip command if fault is persist even after this time delay.
All the settings are password protected to prevent unauthorised change.

4.0 Supervision Function:-

4.1 Self-supervision:-
The relay continuously keeps track on its internal hardware and the movement it
detects any failure of any component, it give message on LCD display, This
feature is very useful to give pre information to avoid any mall - operation. In
such situation it uses the default setting and remains in protection mode.

5.0 Measurement Function and communication:-

In normal condition this display shows all settings. Via keyboard the display can
be program to show the actual voltage across relay coil. If voltages deviate from
NUB settings the relay gives trip command. The type of fault is displayed on LCD
display. During the fault condition the relay measure the fault voltage and
store in non-volatile memory. The fault current can be read via keyboard on
LCD display Last 5 fault values along with tripping counter can be view via
key-board. All settings are saved in Electrically erasable read only memory and
remain.

Displacement Protection Relay ADR 112E Rev. : 03 Dt. 03.08.09
6.0 Electrical Noise Immunity: -
Utility and industrial environments are electrically very noisy. Electronics
protection equipment requires careful design and testing to ensure reliable
operation in switchgear. Ashida has applied its expertise and more than 35 years
of experience in field of electronics design to ensure that the ADR 112E operates
when required, without nuisance trips. Thanks to the latest micro-controller
technology.

7.0 Setting Reliability: -

Any numerical or digital relay in which all settings are programmable via key
board or communication port, use some internal memory to store these settings.
Many relays use internal rechargeable batteries to maintain these settings. In
case of power supply fluctuation, batteries are often unreliable, and settings get
corrupted. In such situation, the relay may mal- operate. Ashida use special non-
volatile memory technology, which do not require any power source to maintain
settings of the relay. Once the relay is programmed, it maintain the settings more
than 10 years even in the absence of any power supply. In case if internal fault is
detected in this section during the self diagnosis, then relay gives message and
take default settings stored in program memory to avoid any mal-operation.

8.0 On Line Testing: -

The ADR 112E relays are provided with online testing facility. By pressing TEST
push button (provided on front panel) the relay provide immediate trip command.
This trip command also get extended to breaker coil, thus entire trip operation
from relay to circuit breaker can be checked. This trip command is recorded as
‘Fault’ and can be viewed on LCD display. If the CB operation is un-desirable
then, pressing Bypass switch can block the relay trip command extension to CB
coil.

15.0 Procedure for Pickup and Time Test.
1. Connect ADR112E Relay to AC Source and Timer as shown in
Drawing.
2. Switch ON the Relay Auxiliary supply.
3. Apply monitoring voltage by AC source to terminal No 7 & 11 (Refer.
Drawing)
4. Set Pickup Voltage as per Test Report (i.e. for e.g. 5Volt)
5. Now gradually increase the voltage when it is above the set pickup
voltage the PKP Led glow on Front plate. That indicates pickup
value.
6. For Time Test set the Time delay as per report (i.e 5sec.)
7. Then switch ON the ARTU unit and adjust voltage to required value
by adjusting dial.
8. Switch OFF ARTU unit and reset the timer.
9. Switch ON the ARTU, which also starts timer unit. Timer unit will
stop the counting when the relay will provide the TRIP signal. Note
down the delay.
10. Repeat the same procedure for other readings.
