Job Description: ​LA ROOTZ PHONE BANKER

Reports to:​ Regional Field Lead, SoCal or LA Campus Coordinator ​(see Signatures section)
Classifications: ​Temporary​ (in most cases)​, Non-Exempt, Part-Time (​ 0–29.5 hours/week)​, At-Will

POSITION SUMMARY
The ​LA Rootz Phone Banker conducts civic engagement campaign phone banking. ​The person in this role
must be motivated and enthusiastic, and able to converse over the phone to contact and mobilize voters.
Training and scripts are provided.​ This position is part of the field campaign operations for Power California
and its sibling 501(c)4 social welfare nonprofit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Phone Banking
● Works 4-hour phone banking sessions, usually 4 days a week, adhering to legally-vetted script, as
scheduled by supervisor
● Maintains professional and engaging conversations with voters and peers
● Works with online voter contact platform database (PDI), as trained
● Tracks voter data contact on a nightly basis to lead staff, entering voter contact data and pledges

OTHER DUTIES
● Carries out administrative tasks, as assigned
● Provides support at organizational events, as needed
● Submits any and all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
● Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
● Passion for and commitment to working with young people of color, low-income immigrants, and
refugees, especially with regard to engaging of local students of color
● Experience with voter engagement campaigns or customer service a plus (not required)
● Must be computer-literate, with basic skills in word processing, spreadsheets
● Comfortable conversing with young voters over the phone and through text about the electoral process
● Able to communicate in an outgoing, enthusiastic and persuasive manner
● Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
● Strong attention to detail
● Bilingual language skills with English-Spanish a plus (not required)
● Must be able to work flexible hours; some evenings and weekends required
● Based in or near East Los Angeles, California (within 25 miles)
● Because of the job duties of this position, a criminal background check will be required as a condition of

● While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently travels by automobile or public
transit or works outside and is thus exposed to changing weather conditions

● Sits at a desk 75% of the time, which includes typing on a computer and mouse 15% of the time and
talking on the phone 10% of the time

objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or
crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell
● Participates in gentle tai chi-influenced physical practice, making any physical adjustments personally

● Carries 15 pounds of equipment about twice a month over medium distances (20-30 feet)
● Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
● Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
