METHOD STATEMENT
Smart Wall Panel Insulation System
1. Pre - installation survey 2. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
and preliminary work Before the start of thermal insulation work, it is

should be maintained between the scaffolding and
the concrete wall. Supports such as bracing, props 02

etc. should not be fixed directly on the wall.

Platform should be provided at every 2m height with

enough access ladders. Handrails should be removed
while applying the final coat to ensure uniform finish.

Survey and preparation of the building is key to

obtaining a successful specification and finished
installation. Visiting the site before commencement
of works is essential for surveying the building and
elevations needing the SW Panel system.

Once the building survey and pre-installation survey

have been completed, drawings and specifications for
each elevation with SW Panel system is to be prepared The adhesion of the existing plasters and paint
and agreed prior to the start of the project. coatings should be checked before starting the
application. “Hollow” plasters should be removed.
Any surface contaminant and other adhesion
impairing substances, steam-tight paint coatings
and the coats with low adhesion to the substrate
should be completely removed, e.g., using washing
devices operating under pressure. The old, not
plastered walls, strong plasters and paint coats
should be dusted, then washed with water jet and
left until they go completely dry. Substrates with
high water absorption, e.g., walls made of aerated
concrete blocks or silicate blocks should be primed
with Primer and left for drying for at least 4 hours.

Smart Wall insulation panels must be fixed to level

and plumb substrate so that the surface to which
the render base coats are applied is level and even
throughout. For uneven substrate (Surface undulations
must be lower than 6.4 mm in 3 meters straight edge)
alternative fixing methods are available based on the
site conditions.

3. Starter trac profile 04

The bottom side of the Smart Wall Panel insulation of

the building is protected by metal starter trac profiles.
Their horizontal location (determined by a spirit level)
is very helpful when installing the Smart Wall
insulation boards over the entire surface of the wall.
These needs to be fixed with anchors (max. spacing
of 50 cm) installed at least 20 cm above ground level.
For installation on uneven substrates, spacers are
used to avoid deformations of the starter trac profile.

03

Install panels horizontally in a running bond pattern,

stagger at vertical joints and straight edge at corners.
Do not allow the base coat to dry prior installation
of panels. Cut the SW Panels to fit openings and
projections and use single pieces around the corners
of openings. Hold all joints tightly and ensure overall
flush level surface of the panels. Leave the panels
overnight for proper bonding to the substrate.

04

4. Installation of SW Panels
SW Panels are fixed by CT 85 adhesive and mechanical
fasteners. Approximately 5.00 litres of clean potable
water in a suitable container is to be arranged. To this
container, CT 85 adhesive needs to be added in small
increments, and a low speed drill with a mixing paddle
is used until the mixture is thoroughly blended.

Apply the adhesive to the entire surface of SW

Panels using notched stainless steel trowel (13 mm
x 13 mm notches spaced 50 mm apart) or Ribbon
and Dab method. Thickness of the adhesive is to be
increased for any surface undulation more than 10
mm. Immediately set the panels in place and apply
pressure over the entire surface to ensure uniformity
and high initial grab.

Edges of the building and frames should be protected

by plastic angle bars (Corner beads). The installation
of the plastic bars with a factory-glued net strip is
convenient. In this way, the mesh can be prevented
from rolling on to the adjoining surfaces.

The insulation boards should be installed in such a

way that they do not touch each other at the edges
of windows. This is meant to avoid cracks in the
protection layer and plaster. It is recommended
to remove plasters from the door and window
frames. Thus, it is possible to seal the window and
wall connection as well as increase the insulation
thickness without compromising on the aesthetic
appearance or function of the window.

QUALITY CONTROL
Quality Control Smart Wall Panel System (SIFS)

1. Material storage:

Verify adequacy of material storage areas and that materials are properly stored.

Insulation should be protected from moisture and direct sunlight during job and whilst site storage.
Pallets of Smart Wall panels are double packaged in a UV resistant polyethylene bag. This moisture
resistant package is designed for protection from the elements during flat-bed shipment from
factories to the site, and for storage on-site during construction phase. Outdoor storage for extended

2. Substrate conditions:

Verify that the substrate is correct, substrate condition is clean, dry, free from defects, in plane, and
verify substrate installation and attachment in conformance with manufacturer’s recommendations
(detailed in method statement)

3. Flashing:

Flashing is a vital component of wall construction that is intended to divert and direct water to the
exterior of the wall.

3.1. Note critical flashing locations on the structure and verify that flashing is present. Flashing must
be installed in compliance with the applicable building code, and at a minimum at the following
locations:

• Above window and door heads

• Beneath window and door sills
• At roof/wall intersections
• At lower to higher wall intersections

3.2. Verify that flashing end dams are incorporated into the flashing material beneath windows and
doors.

terminations prior to the application of SW panels.

4.2. Adhesive application: Verify application of adhesive in the proper direction with the proper size
notched trowel.

4.3. Smart wall Panel installation:

• Verify SW panel joints tightly abutted.

• Verify SW panel joints staggered.
• Verify SW joints interlocked at inside and outside corners.
• Verify “L” cut of SW panel around openings.
• Verify adequate attachment of SW panel by pulling freshly applied board and checking for
equal amount of adhesive on substrate and on SW panel.
• Verify termination of SW panel with proper gap at abutting elements such as windows,
doors, other penetrations, and at expansion joints.
• Verify proper thickness of SW panels at reveals (minimum ¾”) and projecting features
(maximum 4”) and proper slope.

4.4. Insulation fasteners :

• Verify that advocate number of fasteners are provided as per manufacturers

visible.
• Verify installation of diagonal mesh strips at corners of all openings.
• Verify installation of High impact mesh with butt joints at areas indicated on drawings.
• Verify reveals reinforced with mesh and no excess base coat.
• Verify mesh overlaps of minimum 2-1/2”.
• Verify double mesh or Corner Mesh reinforcement at corners.
• Verify no mesh color visible in the completed base coat application.

4.5. Primer application

• Verify complete coverage of base coat with primer

4.6. Finish application

• Verify finish application in advance of direct sunlight exposure and away from a wet edge.
• Verify consistency of texture and color with sample or mock-up.

Smart Wall Reinforcing Mesh – SWM 16O

Description
Fiber glass mesh reinforcement is a coated alkaline

glass mesh has several advantages – high tensile
strength, water-proof,and low elongation. Strength
and durability are a direct result of the weight
of the mesh. It is an ideal material for concrete
reinforcing in building Smart Wall system. It is used
in conjunction with CT 85 adhesive mortar and work
as a reinforcement for both vertical and horizontal
joints of Smart Wall panels.
