PREFACE

This book was prepared for the students of Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management.
Faculty of Commerce and Faculty of Hospitality. The material of this book is based on almost
ten years experience: when the author started teaching here he had barely a dozen of
students, now he has close to 200; these faculties have become very popular.
During this decade many students have asked for a material to help in preparing for
exams. We could offer almost nothing except 3-5 different books (mainly in Hungarian). The
main aim of the author is to fill this gap; the reader can find everything necessary for the
course (and the author hopes you have a successful exam). We split the book into 11
chapters. In each chapter, we present immediately the theorems and definitions, and we
have applied the methods to give examples which illustrate the main ideas. At the end of
chapters we have collected problems with detailed solutions for them. After the theorems we
have proofs infrequently; many are still beyond our focus. If we do. we try to show how nice
and useful that business maths is. In the Appendix of this book we collected "Exercises'1; so
the reader can test their knowledge.
The author hopes you enjoy the present material and have a successful exam in Business
Maths.
