GENERAL RULES FOR

ACADEMIC, LITERARY & MUSICAL CONTESTS


General Rules:

The Academic, Literary & Musical Contests is open to all bona fide
students of AMA Computer College Iloilo only.

Team(s) shall refer to either CSinteractive Team, IT Club /


Organization Team and Engineering ………Team.

Each team shall submit the names of their participants at least a day
before the schedule of the contest.

A member of a particular team cannot represent another team.

A team with no contestant shall be given a grade of zero (0).

Each team must respect the decision of the judges.

The decision of the judges shall be rendered final.

Each team overall standing shall be computed as follows:

For each category, each team will be given the following points:
15 points for 1st Place
10 points for 2nd Place
05 points for 3rd Place

Computation of overall standing:

((Total points / Total perfect points)*50+50)*20%

English Spelling:

Each team shall have one participant.

Each participant will be given an illustration board, a chalk and an


eraser for them to write on.

The terms or words in the contest will be taken from World Literature
Books, English Words with Foreign Origin, and a few familiar words
from the Meriam Websters American English Dictionary.

The contest will be divided into three categories: Easy, Average and
Difficult.

The Easy category shall have ten questions with corresponding ten
points to be awarded for each correct answer given by the participant.
The Average category shall also have ten questions with corresponding
twenty points to be awarded for each correct answer given by the
participant. The Difficult category shall have eight questions with a
corresponding thirty points to be awarded for each correct answer
given by the participant.

Winners will be ranked according to the number of points garnered by


each participant.

During the contest, the quiz master shall announce the word or term
the participants will spell with the corresponding meaning and shall
use it in a sentence. The quiz master shall repeat the same twice
only.

The participants will start spelling the given word on the illustration
board upon the go signal of the quiz master.

Participants are allowed only 30 seconds to spell the word and after
which they are to present their illustration boards to the panel of
judges.

The chief judge will verify the correctness of the spelled words.

English Essay Writing:

Each team shall have one participant.

Each participant will be given enough paper and a pen for them to
write on.

The contest theme is: “Embracing Rizalism as a Way of Life”, in


Filipino, “Isabuhay ang Rizalismo”.

The contest is in accordance with the Order of the Knights of Rizal


National Rizal Essay Writing Contest.

The entry piece must be original and not published nor entered in any
contest. It shall be in English and shall be hand written by the
participant during the contest proper at a time and place designated
by the contest organizers. The entry shall not exceed a maximum of
three pages and shall not be less than two pages.

Basis for judging will be Substance and Originality (40%),


Organization, style, research and the like (40%), Grammar,
punctuations (20%).

Each contestant shall be given a maximum of three hours to finish


their entry.

IT Quiz Bowl:

Each team shall have a maximum of four participants.

Each team will be given an illustration board and a chalk plus an


eraser to write their answers.

The quiz will focus on the general and most recent and or basic
concepts in information technology, the personal computer and its
parts. It shall also include history on information technology and
social issues, quality consciousness and professional ethics.

The quiz questions shall be taken from any of the available resources
that can be found in the AMA Computer College of Iloilo Library.

The quiz master shall give either questions including a definition or a


description of the answer. The question, definition or a description
shall be given twice.

At the go signal of the quiz master, the participants will write their
answers in the illustration boards provided. Each team will be given
30 seconds to write down their answers. After 30 seconds the
participants will show their answers to the panel of judges.

The contest will be divided into three categories: The easy, the
average, and the difficult.

A minimum of 5 questions will be given for each category. In case of a


tie in the number of points, the quiz master shall give a question or
series of questions to break the tie.

A team who can give a correct answer shall be given 5 points, 10


points and 15 points during the easy, average, and difficult rounds
respectively.

The team which will have the highest number of points will be the
winner.

English and Filipino Oration:

Each team shall have one participant each for the Filipino and English
Oration.

The participants may have any theme provided it is relevant to current


conditions of the society.

The organizers do not allow profane or vulgar language.

Participants must deliver their piece for a minimum duration of 4


minutes to a maximum of 7 minutes.

There shall be a one point deduction for every five seconds that a participant
exceeds the maximum time.

There are four areas of judging criteria; Introduction, Content,


Presentation, and Conclusion.

1. Introduction (25%): Does the introduction make you want


to hear more? Does it have a clear thesis? How well is the
beginning laid out?

2. Content (25%): Is each point relevant to the topic? Good


word usage? Does it have a logical, clear organization? Does
it send a pro-life message?

3. Presentation (25%): Appropriate eye contact, audibility,


rate of delivery, voice inflection, fluency, tone, gestures,
pronunciation, general sense of confidence, etc.

4. Conclusion (25%): Does conclusion sum up main points of


the speech?

English and Filipino Declamation:

Each team shall have one participant each for English and Filipino
Declamation.

Each participant may deliver his/her piece for a minimum of 4 to 7


minutes.

For every 5 seconds in excess of the time limit, a one point will be
deducted from the participants score.

Each participant may have any theme for his/ her piece provided that
such is relevant to the current social conditions.

Criteria for judging: Relevance and substance of the piece (40%),


Diction and pronunciation (30%), Expression and delivery (30%).

The organizers do not allow profane or vulgar language.

English Extemporaneous Speaking:

Each team shall have one contestant.

Each participant will be given a question and shall render his/her


opinion orally.

The questions shall be any topic provided it if relevant to the current


social conditions.

Criteria for judging will be: Relevance and substance of the piece
(40%), Diction and pronunciation (30%), Expression and delivery
(30%).

Filipino Classical Vocal Solo Singing Contest:

Each team shall have one participant.

Each participant shall render one Filipino classical piece.

The participants may use either a guitar, a piano, an electric keyboard/


piano, or a minus one for his or her background.

Judging Criteria include: Sound Quality/ Musicality (20%), Clarity


(Diction) (20%), Memory (20%), Expressiveness/Body Language
(20%), Smoothness of Presentation (20%)

Pop Vocal Solo Singing Contest:

Each team shall have one participant.

Each participant shall render one English or Filipino song piece.

The participants may use either a guitar, a piano, an electric keyboard/


piano, or a minus one for his or her background.

Judging Criteria include: Sound Quality/ Musicality (20%), Clarity


(Diction) (20%), Memory (20%), Expressiveness/Body Language
(20%), Smoothness of Presentation (20%)

Pop Vocal Duet Singing Contest:

Each team shall have one participant.

Each participant shall render one English or Filipino song piece.

The participants may use either a guitar, a piano, an electric keyboard/


piano, or a minus one for his or her background.

Impersonation Contest:

Each team shall have one participant.

The participant shall impersonate a person, preferably a celebrity


through either an English or Filipino song piece. The singing will be a
portion of the whole piece.

The participants may use either a guitar, a piano, an electric keyboard/


piano, or a minus one for his or her background.

Judging Criteria include: Sound Quality/ Musicality (20%), Assumption


of Characteristics and appearance (20%), Creativity (20%),
Expressiveness/Body Language/Style (20%), Smoothness of
Presentation (20%)

Doble Karaoke Singing Contest:

Each team shall have one participant.

The participants may use either a guitar, a piano, an electric keyboard/


piano, or a minus one for his or her background.

The participant shall perform and dress like how the contestants do in
a Doble Kara contest.

Judging Criteria include: Sound Quality/ Musicality (20%),


Appearance(30%), Expressiveness/Body Language (30%),
Smoothness of Presentation (20%).

Group Singing Contest:

Each team shall be composed of a minimum of 10 to 15 members.

Each team shall render any 2 christmas songs either in Filipino or


English.

Each group shall sing and dance with the tune of their song. The
group may show expressive movements that may interpret their song.

Judging Criteria include: Sound Quality/ Musicality (20%), Blending


(20%), Memory (20%), Expressiveness/Body Language (20%),
Smoothness of Presentation (20%)
