SMS NOTIFICATION OF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN

COLEGIO DE KIDAPAWAN
 INTRODUCTION

Project Context

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that uses radio waves to transfer

data from an electronic tag, called RFID tag or label, attached to an object, through a reader

for the purpose of identifying and tracking the object. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is

a matured technology that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in

the radio Frequency portion of electromagnetic spectrum to identify a person. RFID chip

contains the radio transmitter that emits the coded identification number when queried by a

reader device. In this case the students will be well monitored. Most of the educational

institutions' administrators are worried about student irregular attendance. Ditching in class

can affect student whole academic performance. The ordinary method of taking attendance

by calling names or signing on paper is very time-taking and insecure, and also this method is

inefficient. Monitoring system is an exclusive software solution. It can be integrated with RFID

technology. In order to implement this project RFID reader, RFID tags and web interface are

required. The card reader should positively identify ID cards and provide consistent logs and

records. The records must be stored in the central database in order to generate reports .

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based attendance system is one of the solutions

to label this problem. This system can be used to take attendance and monitor in student in

school, university and college. Its ability to uniquely identify each person based on the code

present for every RFID tag type of ID card make the process of taking the attendance easier,

faster and secure as compared to ordinary or traditional method. Students only need to place

their ID card on the reader and their attendance will be taken immediately and an sms

notification will be sent to the guardian or parent of the student. With actual time capability of

the system, no. of attendees taken will be more precise since the time for the attendance
taken will be recorded.

In a view to ensuring the welfare of students in an institution where security is at stake,

student monitoring system would help to reduce unidentified absences and will have a great

help to their academic progress; Teachers will easily know the students who failed to attend

the class. The management and the parents can greatly benefit from this kind of system.

Monitoring the presence of students inside the school premise is one of the privileges

the school could offer. Studies show that there are some cases where the students come to

school but failed to attend their classes mostly in the middle of the school year. Assuring the

safety of every student by the use of modern technology will greatly help reduce drop outs

due to absences and unwanted accident reports of the students. Colegio de Kidapawan of

Kidapawan manually monitors the arrival and departure of students by the guards, and can no

longer prevent any unnecessary situations involving the attendance whether the students

attend their class or just wandered around the campus. Unexpected loss of valuable things

owned by the students can also be prevented when student’s ins and outs are strictly

monitored. It can be easy for the security staffs to trace any incident of loss.

Student Monitoring System is being developed to provide a reliable, secure, and

efficient method of tracking the students’ arrival and departure from school, Through SMS

(Short Message Service) it can be easy to notify their parents or guardians whenever they

arrived or left the school premises. This idea when implemented would also innovate the

school in terms of modern technology; the management can easily access the student’s

individual information through their identification cards, and can monitor their time in and out,

to be saved in their individual records. Teachers and department heads could also benefit

from this kind of system. They can easily identify who are the students present in school,

instead of looking for the specific student one by one. In this manner, guards’ duty will be

lessened.
Purpose and Description

 The purpose of this system is to monitor the arrival and departure of Colegio de

Kidapawan high school students.

 To maintain database of the students which collects student in and out activities.

 The students will use their RFID card (Radio Frequency Identification) to enter in the

school premises.

 The RFID reader will detect if the RFID card is registered on the database of the

school. The function of SMS (Sort Message Service) Advisory is it will give the parents

the information regarding the time of the arrival and departure of their children in the

Cdk campus even though they are at home.

Objectives of the Study

the RFID monitoring system aims to achieves these very important objectives:

 To identify the record of time in and time out of each student in Colegio de

Kidapawan Junior High and provide a notification for their parents/guardian

for complacency purpose.

 To provide a reliable source of attendance report for teachers and a secure

information of each students.

 To provide a fast and effective way of monitoring student’s presence through

RFID technology.

Scope and Limitations

 The system can monitor the student’s arrival and departure from the school premise by

the use of RFID technology. Students have to tap their Identification card through the

reader and their time in and out will eventually save to the database.

 As the student enters the school the system will automatically send SMS as the

communication tools for the parents whenever the student enters and leaves the

school premise.

 It cannot filter any incidence just like when a student enters the school bringing the I.D

of their classmates.

 Faculty and staffs attendance are not monitored.
