Preface
Dear customer,
Congratulations on purchasing a high quality MAGINON
product.
You have chosen a modern Rugged DAB+ Radio with
excellent technical equipment and respective accessory,
which is particularly easy to operate.
The device comes with a 3 year warranty. In case of a defect in
the Rugged DAB+ Radio , you require the enclosed warranty
card and proof of purchase. Keep these in a safe place.

General
Read and keep instructions
This Operating Instruction belong to this Rugged
DAB+ Radio. It contains important information about
the start up and handling.
For ease of understanding, the “Rugged DAB+ Radio” can just
referred to as DAB+ Radio in these Operating Instructions.
Study these Operating Instructions and, in particular the
Safety Information in detail prior to using the DAB+ Radio.
Non observance of these Operating Instructions can lead to
loss of data or damage to the DAB+ Radio.
These Operating Instructions are based on valid standards
and regulations of the EU. Also observe specific guidelines
and laws in other countries!
Keep the Operating Instructions for further use. When
passing on the DAB+ Radio to third parties please also include
these Operating Instructions.

Explanation of symbols
The following symbols and signal words are used in these
Operating Instructions, on the device or on the packaging.

Safety
Correct use
The Rugged DAB+ Radio is solely designed to be used
as a DAB+ Radio. It is only suitable for private and not for
commercial use.
Only use the DAB+ Radio as described in the operating
instructions. Any other use is deemed to be incorrect and can
cause material damage and loss of data.
The manufacturers or dealers do not accept any liability for
damage resulting from improper or incorrect use.

Safety information

WARNING!
Electrocution hazard!
Faulty electrical installations or excessive mains voltage can
cause electrocution.
−− Only connect the DAB+ Radio if the mains voltage of the
power point matches the voltage specified on the rating
plate.
−− Only connect the DAB+ Radio to an easily accessible socket
allowing quick disconnection from the power supply in
case of a fault.
−− Please use only the AC adaptor supplied
−− Do not operate the DAB+ Radio in case of visible damage or
if the mains cable or connector is defective.
−− Damaged mains cables of the DAB+ Radio must be
replaced by the manufacturer or customer service or a
similar qualified person.

−− Do not open housing but have repair carried out by an


expert. Contact a specialist workshop. All liability and
warranty claims shall be void in case of repairs carried out
by users, incorrect connection or improper use.
−− The DAB+ Radio may not be operated with an external
timer or separate remote control system.
−− Never immerse the DAB+ Radio or mains cable or plug in
water or other fluids.
−− Never touch mains connector with wet hands.
−− Never remove mains connector from socket by pulling on
the mains cable, but always pull on main plug.
−− Never use mains cable as a carrying handle.
−− Keep the DAB+ Radio, mains connector and mains cable
away from open flames and hot surfaces.
−− Install mains cable in such a way that it does not become a
trip hazard.
−− Do not kink mains cable and do not install it over sharp
edges.
−− Never store the DAB+ Radio in such a way that it can fall
into a trough or wash basin.
−− Never touch an electric device that has fallen into water.
Always pull out mains connector immediately in such a
situation.
−− Keep batteries away from children and pets.
−− Insert the batteries observing the proper polarity (+/-).
Failure to properly align the battery polarity can cause
personal injury and/or property damage.
−− Remove old or discharged batteries from the product.
Remove the batteries when the product will not be used
for extended periods of time to prevent damage due to
rusted or corroded batteries.
−− Never throw batteries into a fire, do not expose batteries
to fire or other heat sources.

−− Battery Disposal: Old or discharged batteries must be


properly disposed of and recycled in compliance with all
applicable laws. For detailed information, contact your
local solid waste authority.
−− Follow the battery manufacturer’s safety, usage, and
disposal instructions.
−− Ensure that children do not push objects into the DAB+
Radio.
−− When not using or cleaning the DAB+ Radio or in case of
a fault, always switch off the DAB+ Radio and pull mains
connecter out of socket.

WARNING!
Hazard or children and persons with reduced physical,
sensory or mental abilities (such as partially disabled,
older persons with limited physical and mental abilities)
or lack of experience and know-how (such as older
children).
−− This DAB+ Radio must not be used by persons with
reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack of
experience or know how, unless they are supervised or
have been instructed on how to safely use the DAB+ Radio
and understand the hazards associated with it. Children
may not play with the DAB+ Radio. The camera may not be
cleaned or maintained by children.
−− Keep children under the age of eight away from the DAB+
Radio and the mains cable.
−− Do not leave the DAB+ Radio unintended during operation.
−− Keep packaging foil away from children. They could get
caught in it during play and could suffocate.
−− When installing and assembling the DAB+ Radio ensure that
a 10 cm gap is maintained on all sides in order to provide

adequate ventilation. Ensure, in particular, that ventilation


slots are not covered by newspaper, table clothes or curtains.

Note!
Danger of material damage!
Incorrect use of the DAB+ Radio can cause the DAB+ Radio to
be damaged.
−− Place the DAB+ Radio on an easily accessible, level, dry,
heat-resistant and sturdy work surface. Do not place the
DAB+ Radio at the edge or periphery of the work surface.
−− Avoid overheating by never positioning the DAB+ Radio
directly against a wall or underneath mounted cupboards.
−− Never place the DAB+ Radio on or near hot surfaces (e.g.
stove tops, etc.).
−− Ensure that mains cable does not come into contact with
hot parts. Never expose the DAB+ Radio to excessive
temperatures (heating, etc.).
−− Never pour liquid into the DAB+ Radio.
−− When cleaning, never immerse the DAB+ Radio in water
and do not use steam cleaner. The DAB+ Radio could
otherwise be damaged.
−− Do not use the DAB+ Radio if plastic or metal parts of it show
cracks or tears or are deformed. Replace damaged parts
only with original spare parts.
−− Damage to the electronics, lens or accessory caused by
external influences such as impacts, falls or others are not
covered by the warranty and are chargeable.
−− The DAB+ Radio is waterproof to IP standard IP54, so it can
also be used outdoors.
The AC adaptor is suitable for indoor use
only! The adaptor may not be used outside
buildings.

−− Please open packaging carefully.
1. Check that delivery is complete (see Fig. A).
2. Remove the DAB+ Radio from packaging and check whether the
equipment or parts are damaged. If yes, do not use the DAB+
Radio. Contact the service address of the manufacturer listed on
the Warranty card.

Power Supply
Operating the DAB+ Radio on AC power
Insert one end at the supplied AC adaptor to the DC 5.9V IN
Jack located at the rear of the DAB+ Radio and the other end
into the Wall outlet.

WARNING!
Caution!
Before using the DAB+ Radio. Check that the local mains
supply is compatible with the DAB+ Radio. Do not plug or
unplug the power cable with wet hands.
When planning not to use this DAB+ Radio for a
long period of time (i.g. Vacation etc.) disconnect
the plug from the wall outlet.

Operating the DAB+ Radio on batteries


− When the DAB+ Radio is used with batteries, disconnet the
AC adaptor!
− Unplug the AC adaptor from the DAB+ Radio.
− Open the battery compartment and insert 4 type “C”
batteries (not provided) into the compartment.
− Close the battery compartment door.

NOTE!
Check your batteries regularly. Old or discharged
batteries should be replaced.
If the DAB+ Radio is not used for a long period
of time or is used exclusively on AC electrical
current, remove batteries from the battery
compartment to avoid leakage.

Operation
Switch the DAB+ Radio on with the ON/OFF Button and push
the Standby-button to operate the device.

In DAB+ mode
1. Press the Function-Button to select DAB+ radio mode.
−− Auto select : Press the AUTO-SCAN/PLAY button, “AUTOTU-
NE FULL SCAN” will be shown on the display. The number
of received DAB+ stations will be shown on the upper right
corner, and it will playback the first station automatically.
Turn the TUNING+/- knob in the desired direction and
release it again to choose the next or previous station.
−− Manual select: press and hold the INFO/PLAY MODE but-
ton until the “MANUAL TUNE” icon is shown on the display,
then press the ENTER/STOP button to select the manual
operation mode. Rotate TUNING+/- to choose the station.
2. Station Preset DAB+ Mode.
−− To store the desired DAB+ station, press and hold the
PRESET button until “Preset Empty X” (X is the current pro-
gram number) appear on the display and the “X” (Preset
Number) starts blinking. Now you can release the PRESET
button again.
−− Use the TUNING+/- knob repeatedly to select the program
number (1-16) you want store this channel. Press ENTER/
STOP button to store it.
−− Repeat the same procedures until all the desired radio
stations were stored into the program list.
−− Recall the memory, press PRESET button once, then rotate
TUNING+/- knob to select the stored radio station as desi-
red. Press the ENTER/STOP to confirm.

AUS Operation

In FM mode
1. Press the Function-Button to select FM mode and press
the AUTO-SCAN/PLAY button. When a station is found the
frequency will be shown on the display and the station will
be played back automatically. Turn the TUNING+/- knob
in the desired direction and release it again to choose the
next or previous station.
2. If sound is not clear or distortions appear rotate the
TUNING+/- knob to fine tune the correct channel.
3. Station Preset FM Mode.
−− To store the desired FM station, press and hold the PRESET
button until “Preset Empty X” (X is the current program
number) appear on the display and the “X” (Preset
Number) starts blinking. Now you can release the PRESET
button again.
−− Use the TUNING+/- knob repeatedly to select the program
number (1-16) you want store this channel. Press ENTER/
STOP button to store it.
−− Repeat the same procedures until all the desired radio
stations were stored into the program list.
−− Recall the memory, press PRESET button once, then rotate
TUNING+/- knob to select the stored radio station as desi-
red. Press the ENTER/STOP to confirm.

Using the AUX input


4. Switch the DAB+ Radio on with the ON/OFF button and
press the Standby button to operate the device. Use the
Function-Button to select the Aux-In mode.
5. Connect the AUX wire from the out jack of your Personal
Player such as portable MP3 player to the AUX input jack.
6. Turn on your Personal Player to begin playing, adjust the
volume to desire listening level.

7. Adjust the volume by rotating the Vol +/ – knob.

Using the USB port


1. Switch the DAB+ Radio on with the ON/OFF Button and
press the Standby button to operate the device..
2. Press the Function-Button to select USB function and
“MP3 MODE” will appear on LCD display.
3. Press AUTO-SCAN/PLAY button to start USB playback from
the first track.
4. Press once more AUTO-SCAN/PLAY button to pause the
playback.
5. To stop the playback, press the ENTER/STOP button.

USB-Mode Functions
Skipping 10 tracks:
−− Backward: Rotate the tuning- knob.
−− Fast Forward: Rotate the tuning+ knob.

Skipping 10 tracks:
−− Backward: Press ALARM/+10 button.
−− Fast Forward: Press INFO/-10 button.

Repeat Play:
−− Repeat One: Press PRESET/PLAY Button during playback of
desired track (REP ONE).
−− Select Track to Repeat: Rotate the Tunning +/- Button.
−− Cancel: Press PRESET/PLAY MODE Button 3 times.
−− Repeat all: Press PRESET/PLAY Button twice during play-
back (REP ALL).

AUS INFO Button

− Cancel: Press PRESET/PLAY MODE Button 2 times.

Random Play:
− Random: Press PRESET/PLAY Button 3 times during play-
back (RANDOM).
− Cancel: Press PRESET/PLAY MODE Button again.
In USB & AUX-IN mode, the unit will automatically
enter the standby mode if not used for more than
15 minutes.

INFO Button
DAB+ information
The DAB+ Radio has a DAB+ information mode which appears
on the bottom line of the display. Short press the INFO key to
see the available Info types.
1. Program type: Displays the type of station content being
broadcast e.g. Classic, Pop, News, etc.
2. Ensemble Freq.: Displays the DAB+ station frequency such
as 13F 239.200MHz.
3. Audio Bit Rate: Displays the data rate in kilo Bits per
second and the audio mode e.g. Stereo.
4. Ensemble name: Displays the name of the multiplex to
which the Digital1 Network current station belongs.
5. Signal strength: Displays the signal strength for the
station being listened to.
6. Time/Date: Displays current time and date, received
off-air.
7. DLS (Dynamic Link Segment): Scrolling text which

includes messages such as Artist and track name, phone


numbers, program details, etc.

FM information
The DAB+ Radio has a FM information mode which appears on
the bottom line of the display. Short press the INFO key to see
the available Info types.
1. PTY (program type): Displays the type of station content
being broadcast e.g. Classic, Pop, News, etc.
2. Signal strength: Displays the signal strength for the
station being listened to.
3. Time and Date: Displays current time and date, received
off-air.
4. Station frequency: Displays the frequency of the station
being listened to.
5. Audio mode: Displays the current audio mode setting i.e.
Auto(Stereo) or Mono.
6. Radio Text: Scrolling text which includes messages
such as Artist and track name, phone numbers, program
details, etc.

Settings
Alarm 1 settings
1. In Standby mode, press the ALARM/+10 button until the
Alarm 1 menu is shown.
2. OFF or ON is flashing to indicate that it can be changed.
Rotate the TUNING+/- knob to change between OFF and
ON and short press ENTER/STOP to confirm.
3. When the hour digits are flashing use the TUNING+/- knob

to set the required hour. Press the ENTER/STOP button to


confirm.
4. The minutes beginn to flash. Set the Minutes as described
above and press the ENTER/STOP button to confirm.

Alarm 2 settings
5. In Standby mode, press the ALARM/+10 button 2 times
until the Alarm 2 menu is shown.
6. OFF or ON is flashing to indicate that it can be changed.
Rotate the TUNING+/- knob to change between OFF and
ON and short press ENTER/STOP to confirm.
7. When the hour digits are flashing use the TUNING+/- knob
to set the required hour. Press the ENTER/STOP button to
confirm.
8. The minutes beginn to flash. Set the Minutes as described
above and press the ENTER/STOP button to confirm.

Shut off / cancel


To cancel the Alarm when it has activated press the
ALARM/+10 button or the STANDBY button. The alarm sound
stopps and will be activated automatically for the next day.
The Alarm will automatically switch off after 59 munites
unless cancelled or switched off manually.

To turn off the alarm completely


Short press the ALARM/+10 button. While the Alarm settings
are displayed on the screen rotate the TUNING+/- knob to
select alarm OFF. Press the ENTER/STOP button to confirm.

Sleep timer
1. Press the SLEEP/10 key button while the DAB+ Radio
playback any input source. The sleep Menu appears on the
display.
2. The Sleep timer starts blinking. Press the SLEEP/10 button
again to select the sleep timer periode. You can select 15,
30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
3. Set the required time period and press the ENTER/ STOP
button to confirm your selection.
4. The display will show the selected sleep timer period
on the right upper corner. The DAB+ Radio will switch
automatically in the Stand-by mode when the sleep timer
period is over.

Cancel sleep timer


1. Press the SLEEP/10 key button while the DAB+ Radio
playback any input source. The sleep Menu appears on the
display.
2. The Sleep timer starts blinking. Press the SLEPP/10 button
again and select OFF. Confirm your setting with the ENTER/
STOP button.

System reset
With the Reset Function you can clear all preset stations,
Alarm and Sleep Settings.
1. In DAB+ or FM Mode press the Function-Button until the
display shows „Press Enter Key to reset“.
2. Short press the ENTER/STOP button. The display shows
„System Reset“.
3. All previous settings and presets will be cleared. The tuner
will automatically start a new quick scan.

The DAB+ Radio becomes hot during operation!
−− Let the DAB+ Radio cool down completely!

NOTICE!
Danger of short circuit!
Any water that has entered the housing can cause a short.
−− Never immerse DAB+ Radio in water.
−− Ensure that no water enters the housing.

NOTICE!
Danger from incorrect operation!
Incorrect use of the DAB+ Radio can cause the DAB+ Radio to be
damaged.
−− Do not use any aggressive cleaners, brushes with metal or
nylon bristles or sharp or metallic cleaning objects, such as
knives, hard spatulas and similar. These can damage the
surface.
−− Never placethe DAB+ Radio in dishwasher. This would
destroy the Radio

1. Pull out mains connector prior to cleaning.


2. Let the DAB+ Radio cool down completely.
3. Wipe the DAB+ Radio with a slightly damp cloth. Let the DAB+
Radio dry completely.

Storing AUS

Storing
When not in use please disconnect the DAB+ Radio from the
power supply and store it in a clean and dry place outside of
the reach of children.

Disposal
Dispose of packaging
For disposal, separate packaging into different
types. Cardboard and board must be disposed
of as paper and foil must be recycled.

Dispose of used camera


(Applicable in European Union and other European countries
using systems for separate collection of recyclables).
Do not dispose of used cameras in household
waste!
If the Rugged DAB+ Radio can no longer be used
each consumer is legally obliged to dispose of
used devices, separately from domestic waste,
e.g. at a collecting point of the municipality/district.
This ensures that used equipment is recycled correctly and
that negative effects on the environment are avoided.
Electrical equipment is consequently marked with the
adjacent symbol.

AUS Disposal

Dispose of used batteries


Prior to disposal, the integrated batteries must first be
removed and disposed off separately from the housing.

Unfortunately, from time to time, faulty products are manufactured which need to be
returned to the Supplier for repair.
Please be aware that if your product is capable of retaining user-generated data (such
as files stored on a computer hard drive, telephone numbers stored on a mobile telephone,
songs stored on a portable media player, games saved on a games console or files stored
on a USB memory stick) during the process of repair, some or all of your stored data may
be lost.
We recommend you save this data elsewhere prior to sending the product for repair.
You should also be aware that rather than repairing goods, we may replace them with
refurbished goods of the same type or use refurbished parts in the repair process.
Please be assured though, refurbished parts or replacements are only used where
they meet ALDI’s stringent quality specifications.
