2. Frame distance measurement

Bridge

Maintenanc
Distance between centers (DBC)

3. Frame thickness and groove position measurement

Aim
9 Measure the middle point of the two clips for automatic insertion of the stylus.
9 Measure the groove position in the frame thickness in order to position the bevel
so that the lens slightly touches the front face of the frame.

Upper clip (fixed)

Frame

Lower clip (mobile)

4. Measurement of the lens penetration into the groove also called “groove angle measurement” –
Briot patent n° 99914602.0
Aim
9 Measure lens penetration into the groove and correct the lens size in order to reduce
the retouch rate.
Principle
9 The stylus has a second tip showing the same geometry (angle) as the lens bevel.
9 The Scanform™ compares the difference of penetration between the normal stylus and
the second tip. This difference, if it exists, is applied to the lens size for perfect fitting.

Shadowgraph zone
Composition
The shadowgraph zone components are:
• Collimator.
• Opaque screen.
• Shadowgraph camera.

Function
The function of this zone is to determine the progressive lens markings, the upper segment of bifocals, the three
lay-out dots of the lensmeter and the lens outline (for all lenses). It is also here that the recognition of patterns is
performed (PROS).

Axcell – FC 00 436-03 1-5

Component description
Component Description
Collimator • The collimator directs the light rays emitted by the diode so that they come out parallel to it.
• Light intensity is software controlled.

Opaque screen Lens markings, bifocal upper segment, lens outline lighted by the collimator are projected on
the opaque screen. It has to be clean and steady. Any scratch or finger print could be
interpreted as a lens characteristic.
Shadow-graph • The shadowgraph camera traces the picture of the lens or the pattern through the opaque
camera screen.
• The picture processing of the Axcell analyses and determines the markings, bifocal lens and
lens or pattern outline. It is therefore necessary to have a picture with good contrast and
good sharpness to increase the relevance of the picture processing.

The function of this zone is to find out the optical center, axis and power of single vision or prismatic lenses.

Component description
Component Description
Target • The target is made out of a flat lens on which two concentric circles and a cross are
engraved. Those markings are well known and perfect.
• An opaque screen diffuses an even lighting on the target.

Target • The target camera acquires: OK ? the target picture through the lens to be analysed.
camera • The spherical, cylindrical or prismatic power distort the target and move its center.
• The analysis of this distortion and movement of the center makes determination
of the optical centre, axis and power possible for single vision and prismatic lenses.

Frame axis rectification
Principle
• If the trace of the frame presents a fault in determining the axis the Axcell program can

Maintenance
proceed to an axis correction called « Frame axis rectification » that tilts the traced shape
according to the frame axis reference (Top axis, bottom axis, medium axis).

Axis error

Top axis

Bottom

Middle axis

• The frame axis rectification can be disabled.

Shape comparison
Principle
• After tracing a metal frame, both right and left shapes are compared. If the shape
difference is important, the message “A defective frame may cause an axis error.
Would you like to see it?” comes up.
• The difference can be due to a shape or axis difference between both sides of the frame.
This feature does not correct anything but just warns the operator about a possible
shape difference between the two sides of the frame.

• The right circle (in red) and left circle (in blue) shapes are displayed as superimposed.
Then the operator can see the shape differences in order to re-work the frame.

Opening of the lens gripping plate
An incorrect adjustment of the opening of the lens gripping plate generates skipping of teeth (cracking
noises) between the plate and the Theta rotation motor. This also creates a loss of reference on the
Theta axis and problems in opening the elements of the plate.
When one or several micro-switches have been adjusted, it is necessary to readjust the maneuvering
stop of the lens gripping plate.
The position of the micro-switch(es) having been changed, it is essential to adjust the maneuvering
stop in the general adjustment phase of the XY Theta table.

Description of the focusing screen

The picture processing system analyses the 3 barcodes situated on the tool 14 04 263 :
• The light intensity of each code is shown on a graph (blue, green or red).
• Each code line reduces the light intensity and each peak on the graph shows the light which
passes between 2 lines.
• When the picture is fuzzy, the peaks are flattened. When focusing is correct, all the peaks are
pronounced.
The profile of each graph is analyzed and a variation bar shows the accuracy of the focusing.
Two values appear above the diagram: the first corresponds to a maximum value and the second
to the current value.
The percentage of focusing sharpness is the ratio between these 2 values.

Adjusting the axis and the drilling of the Accura Cl

Automatic adjustment
Principles
• The adjustment of the axis and drilling of the Accura may be done automatically via
the Axcell.
• The adjustments concerned are the following: axis, drilling (if the function present),
axis of the safety-bevelling and grooving (if functions present).
• Axcell receives a request from the Accura and send the contents of its current job.
The data transmitted (job type + position of the holes) will allow the Accura to perform
the adjustments.
• The detection accuracy of the Axcell directly qualifies the accuracy of the Accura
adjustment.

2 - 10 Axcell – FC 00 436-03
Conditions
The automatic adjustment of the axis and drilling presumes that:
• The version of the Accura Lab and Cl is > or = to V4.10.
• The version of the Axcell is > or = to V3.04.
• All the adjustments of the Axcell connected to the Accura have been made.
• The adjustments (tightening pressure, fall-outs, grinding wheel radii, cylinder
gain, finishing sizes) have been made.

Procedure for automatic adjustment of the axis and drilling

To adjust the axis and the drilling automatically, proceed as follows:

Step Action
1. Mark a 66mm round, flat, plastic lens (reference number 10 00 205) with two lines with
a 10mm axis and a centre cross of 10mm with a felt-tip # 24 06 211.

Calibration & checking

Be careful to trace the axis lines at least 5 mm from the centre cross.
It is essential these lines have a length of 10mm so as not to be in contact
with the edge of the lens when the latter is being edged.

2. On the Accura, access the automatic adjustment screen following:

Choose “Yes”.

Axcell – FC 00 436-03 2 - 11
Step Action
3. The following screen displays:

Note: “Confirm” will be accessible when the adjustment has been performed.

4.

Lay-out the lens on the Axcell in progressive and automatic mode .

5. Block the lens axed and laid-out on the Axcell.
6. Insert the blocked lens in the Accura Edger.
7. Press OK.
Result: The edging is performed.

o If the adjustment of the bit leveling position has already been done
during the first use, the lens is edged (rectangular shape) and drilled
(hole on the top right of the lens). Move to step 8 below.

o If the adjustment of the bit leveling position has not yet been done, the
adjustment screen for the leveling of the bit shown at step 3 of the
paragraph “Adjusting the leveling position of the bit” remains displayed.

Note: If your edger is not equipped with the drilling function, the lens is simply edged
(rectangular shape).

8. When the edging and drilling of the lens have been performed, the following screen is
displayed.

9. Remove the edged lens from the edging chamber.

2 - 12 Axcell – FC 00 436-03
Step Action
10. Remove the lens block and blacken the outline of the lens with a marker pen 24 06 486.
Note: When you blacken the outline of the lens, take care to mark the external face
of the lens in order to avoid dirtying the pattern holder 02 25 042.

Calibration & checking

Caution: The axis lines must not touch the marks of the lens outline.
11. Position the lens on the pattern holder and proceed to the automatic recognition
of the shape (PROS) on the Axcell.

Caution: Make sure you have chosen the correct side (= right side) using

the key .
12. Go back to the Accura screen and press OK.
Result : An hourglass appears on the Accura screen. The Accura asks the Axcell for the job
then checks :

o The horizontality of the shape in relation to the axis detected.

o The presence of a single, unique hole in the top right of the lens.

If the shape called up conforms, then the axis alignment grinding and the drilling position
have been corrected.

If a warning message is displayed, go to the table shown in the paragraph Warning

messages that may appear during the automatic adjustment procedure shown below.

Axcell – FC 00 436-03 2 - 13
Step Action
13. The following screen displays:

You can check the old as well as the new adjustment parameters.
Note: If your edger is not equipped with the drilling function, only the information relative to
axis alignment is displayed.

14. Choose “Following”.

Result : The edging screen shown at step 3 appears. The function “Confirm” can now be
activated.

Two possibilities:
If you choose “Confirm”, you access the adjustment parameters backup screen.
Go to step 15.
If you choose “Escape”, you access the adjustment exit screen
(“Do you wish to exit the adjustments?”)
15. Back up the adjustment parameters of the axis alignment and the drilling.

Important note!

• For the Accura Lab/Cl not equipped with the drilling option, only the
adjustment of the axis can be done automatically. Only the information
and actions relative to the axis are displayed and undertaken.
• The “usual manual” adjustment have not been removed. You can still use
them when the Accura Lab/Cl is directly connected to the OMA (PC)network.

screen.
The light intensity is analyzed in two perpendicular directions X and Y (respectively marked
on a red line and a green line).
When the analysis is finished, the values of the following elements are displayed:
1. "Opaque screen dirty/clean": Message indicating the state of cleanliness
detected by the system. If the opaque screen is judged to be dirty, the black
marks corresponding to the specks of dust appear in yellow on the image
displayed. In this case, clean the opaque screen.
2. "Average" : Field indicating the average light intensity of the image displayed.
This value must be near to 165 +/- 5 (it is used to adjust the aperture of the
shadowgraph camera).
3."Deviation on 5": Field indicating the peaks of the light intensity detected on
one “sliding window” of 5 pixels the length of the X or Y axis.

MESSAGES SYSTEM
Introduction
The following errors have been generated by a mechanical, an electronic or a software problem.
The following table describes their occurrence condition.

Lexicon
Word Definition
Timeout Time interval during which the program is waiting for an action (example: switch
actuation). If the time limit is reached without the action is performed, the program
shows a Timeout error.
Insufficient During the motion of a component, the stroke measured does not correspond to the
stroke theoretical stroke.
Loose of steps During the motion of a component driven by a stepper motor, the number of counted
steps between two micro-switches actuation does not correspond to the number of
expected steps.
Motor not In the MTR, a motion driven by a stepper motor has not been initialised. The micro-
initialized switch initialising the origin has not been activated.
Sensor error On a motion controlled by two micro-switches on opposite end end-stops (example:
blocking unit, jaws, door), both switches show an illogical status (example: up and
down end-stop micro-switches are triggered).
