Tenet Healthcare Proposal

Devon Thomas
Purdue University
Ma’am,
The public relations team developed the problem statement: “What must Tenet

Healthcare execute to remain competitive in not only the next fiscal year, but also the next five to

fifteen years in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Dallas, Texas area? As director of public relations for the

Tenet Healthcare corporation, I propose that we tackle the issue of women and heart disease to

gain more patients in the Dallas area.

Women between the ages of 45 and 65 are more than likely to die a year after a heart

attack (Heart Disease and Women , 2018). Women who are older than 65 will most likely die a

few weeks after a heart attack (Heart Disease and Women , 2018). Women are more susceptible

to “broken heart syndrome,” which is characterized by an interruption of the heart pumping

irregularly in one area of the heart muscle (Mayo Clinic, n.d.) .

The American Heart Association recommends women to screen for potential heart issues

as early as 20-years old (Orlando Health, n.d.), which why the younger generation is a target

public. In a recent poll from Orlando health, eight percent or the respondents knew that

screenings were recommended to start at the age of twenty (Orlando Health, n.d.).

Tenet Health should allocate to educate younger generations. When they learn from our

physicians and health educators, we can build the network of new patients who will perform their

checkups at Tenet Healthcare for their lifetime.

As a women age, their risk of heart disease increases, which is why women between the

ages of 45 to 65 are the next the targeted public. We want to keep patients who contemplate the

decision to switch to other healthcare facilities. We also want to take patients from other

healthcare competitors. The public relations team will demonstrate the corporation’s
commitment to our patients and local communities. We will explain why our patients chose us,

and why new patients should come to us.

Smokers are the third stakeholder. We understand that smokers are interconnected

between women of all ages. Furthermore, it is common knowledge that smoking cessation is

prevalent. Our team still can reach these stakeholders through public service announcements. We

can partner with other organizations who combat against smoking cessation. We can tell the

public that women above the age 35 who smoke have a higher risk to die of heart disease than

male smokers (Centers for Diesase Control, 2014). The median age of women in the Dallas

Metro area is 35 years-old .

The public relations team aims to develop a strategic communication plan to increase the

number of patients in our hospitals to raise awareness of heart disease in women exponentially

within the next year. We have created a timeline for your approval. We can implement the

strategy October 1, 2019. At the beginning of the third quarter, April 2020, the public relations

team along with marketing, and other components of the corporate communications will conduct

a thorough review of the strategy. We anticipate the plan to be enduring. Please feel free to ask

any questions. We feel that the plan will push Tenet Healthcare further ahead of our competitors.
