This course focuses on adult patients with acute and chronic illnesses and multiple healthcare issues. Students continue to build
on prior knowledge to determine the biophysical needs of diverse patient populations in order to provide safe, effective, and
competent nursing care. Emphasis is on comprehensive assessment, prioritization of care, RN professional role development,
utilization of teamwork strategies, use of evidence-based practice, application of scientific principles and theory, and integration
of health and maintenance behaviors into plans of care.

1. Manage nursing care of individuals and groups of adult patients with consideration of cultural, spiritual ethnic, and social
determinants of health
2. Integrate evidence-based nursing care and engage patients and families in active partnerships that promote health, safety,
well-being and self-health management for acute and chronically ill adult patients.
3. Clearly communicate accurate and relevant health information effectively and therapeutically, to adult patients, their
families, and the health care team.
4. Model behaviors associated with professional nursing practice that exhibits responsibility and accountability consistent
with standards of practice for nursing care
5. Create evidence-based plan of care that reflects the biophysical needs of adult patients and families and promotes health
maintenance
6. Evaluate information technology and integrate evidence-based sources to measure the effectiveness of care in the adult
patient with complex health needs.
Clinical Learning Outcomes
A. Incorporate relevant and accurate information while providing patient and family centered care. Manage nursing care for
individuals and groups of adult patients considering their inherent dignity, spirituality, uniqueness, and diverse
backgrounds.
B. Integrate clinical reasoning while using the nursing process to make clinical decisions for clients experiencing potentially
health altering experiences/acute/chronic illnesses. Demonstrate all safety aspects regarding the medication
administration process, asper clinical faculty guidelines, with occasional cues from supervising faculty. Evaluate the
effectiveness of strategies to eliminate the risk of harm and promote a culture of safety.
C. Utilize teamwork, delegation and leadership strategies when interacting with the interprofessional team. Participate with
the interdisciplinary healthcare team and assume accountability for providing safe and effective care to the adult
population.
D. Exemplify professional values that employ ethical, legal, and moral standards in caring for adult patients and their families
with acute and chronic medical and surgical disorders. Integrate standards of nursing practice with policies and producers
in the clinical setting. Develop personal strengths, identify weaknesses and areas for improvement in clinical setting.

E. Apply critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to create evidence-based plan of care for acute/chronic patients. Analyze

F. Synthesize information technologies and integrate current evidence-based best practice research in adult patient with

Standard 3: Students

 3.1 Policies for nursing students are congruent with those of the governing organization as well as the state when
applicable, and are publicly accessible, non-discriminatory, and consistently applied; differences are justified by the end-of-
program student learning outcomes and program outcomes.
 3.8 Orientation to technology is provided and technological support is available to students

Standard 4: Curriculum
 4.1 Consistent with contemporary practice, the curriculum incorporates established professional nursing standards,
guidelines, and competencies and has clearly articulated end-of-program student learning outcomes.
 4.2 The end-of-program student learning outcomes are used to organize the curriculum, guide the delivery of instruction,
and direct learning activities.
 4.5 The curriculum includes cultural, ethnic, and socially diverse concepts and may also include experiences from regional,
national, or global perspectives.
 4.6 The curriculum and instructional processes reflect education theory, interprofessional and practice competencies, and
measure the achievement of the end-of-program student learning outcomes.
 4.9 Student clinical experiences and practice learning environments are evidence-based; reflect contemporary practice and
nationally established patient health and safety goals; and support the achievement of end-of-program learning outcomes.
Standard 6: Outcomes
 The nursing program has a current systematic plan of evaluation and it contains:
a) Specific measurable expected levels of achievement for each end-of-program student learning outcome and each
program outcome (ACEN, 2018).
