 PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR THE HOLISTIC
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SCHEDULED TRIBES /
SCHEDULED CASTES PRE- METRIC HOSTEL STUDENTS
IN KOLLENGODE, CHITTUR AND NEMMARA BLOCK

INTRODUCTION

India is a welfare State, committed to the welfare and development of its

people and of vulnerable sections in particular. The preamble, Directive
Principles of State Policy, Fundamental Rights and specific sections, viz.,
Articles 38, 39 and 46 in the Constitution of India, stand testimony to the
commitment of the State to its people. Socially disadvantaged groups of
Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes have received special focus over the years
for their social and economic advancement. Government has taken several steps
for framing appropriate policies needed to design and implement various
welfare programmes for achieving the objective of creating favorable
environment to ensure speedy socio economic development of SCs and STs. For
the well being of these communities, special target- oriented programmes are
being implemented by providing subsidies, offering reservations in employment
and educational institutions etc…
There are many grants providing government for the students who they
are from backward community especially scheduled tribes. But the people who
protect them have a great responsibility that is make them self sufficient. The
objectives for educational advancement of SCs and STs include improving the
literacy rate, female literacy rate, universal education, improving the
educational status, increasing the enrolment rate, reducing dropout rate,
repetition and retention rate at all levels, improving the pass percentage in X
and XII Stds, improving the performance in competitive examinations,
improving the quality of teaching and encouraging the integration of SCs and
ST with the rest of the society.

Aashrayam is an organization working for the society’s

betterment. We are focusing the complete education of each student. Through
this project we can ensure that the students will get educational and non
educational trainings including personality development training, inter personal
and intra personal relationship trainings, carrier guidance trainings etc. The
benefit of the project is the students will learn more about society. We are
focusing the activity based value oriented classes.

FOCUSSING AREA

We are focusing Scheduled tribes and scheduled castes students from each
Pre- Metric hostel situated in Kollengode, Chittur and Nemmara Block
Panchayath

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

 To prepare them to act against exploitation

 To bring academic and non academic development of scheduled tribe
students through implementation of the project
 To ensure active participation of each students who they are living in
pre- metric hostel
 To bring a strategic change in their behaviour, attitude and relationship
 To bring socio cultural development of each students
 To sensitize the rights of children
 To prevent Child marriage

CONCLUSION

Education holds the key for the development of any community; priority is
given to education to bring about improvement in the social and economic
status of the scheduled tribes. The strategies for achieving the objectives of our
project include equipping all the hostels which are established for the SC and
ST students have very good infrastructural facilities, providing basic amenities
to all students. The project is aiming the development and strategic change of
the scheduled tribe students based on trainings and value oriented classes.

The objectives will be achieved by widening the scope of

educational schemes to benefit more number of persons with a view to
eliminating socio-economic backwardness, recasting educational facilities to the
advantage of minorities and women, strengthening of institutional set up with
full fledged facilities to schools and hostels, motivating students for studying
technical courses, qualitative improvement in the living conditions of the
hostellers.

We believe that the project can make a perfect impact on the living
condition of the SC and ST student’s life.
