Notes going into training:
The end of season is near so we are beginning to prepare for the conference
tournament.
We wont be learning any new skills, but taking this time to improve and master
everything we learned throughout the season shooting on target, finding splits,
combining on offense, defending as a unit, having a good first touch to set us up
for our next move, good communication etc…
We will be putting it all together to be as prepared as we can for the tournament.
Keep these in mind going into practice to prepare your mind and body.

3:003:05 Gather team. Introduction. Explain Objectives
3:053:15 Warm Up 1 jog around the field
Dynamic stretch on the sideline to the corner of the box
lunges, high kicks frontwards/backwards, quad stretch, hamstring
pulls, high knees, butt kickers, open and close the gates.
Line up side by side down the line for maximum reps and less
waiting around.
(refer to Table 1 for set up)
Table 1:
3:153:20 10 yards passing
(vary touch limit after 3 minutes to challenge players and warm up their
legs/touch) – refer to Table 2 for set up (table 2 only used to show set up you
should set up 15 lines of cones with a cone 510 yards away across)
1 touch passing 5 yards apart
2 touch passing 10 yards apart
Focus on accuracy of the pass
Use both inside and outside of the foot
Alternate feet to improve your versatility on the field
One person per cone for maximum reps
Stay on your toes to be ready for any ball
Keep your chest over the ball to ensure it stays on the ground
Table 2:
3:203:40 Box of Death (Refer to Table 3 for set up)
Split up into two teams
Create a box with cones about 30 yards x 30 yards (range size for more
incorporation of conditioning)
Have a small box in the middle of the square 8 yards x 8 yards (make it big
enough for multiple elite players to dribble through at a time)
Half the team (15) surrounding the big box with a ball to start half the team
(15) in the small box in the middle.
Head Coach creates a rule for the round lasting 1 minute then you
switch (you can extend for more conditioning) ex: one touch pass,
use nondominant foot
The players in the middle will sprint to an open teammate,
communicate they want the ball and the outside player will pass the
ball and the player inside will adapt to whatever the rule is and then
give them the ball back following the instruction of the coach for
that round.
Vary the rules often for attention of the athletes
(Modification) Have the people on the outside start out with it in
their hands so the team in the middle can work on settling the ball
and their first touch out of the air for more advanced technical work
(Modification) Switch it up after a few rounds to where the people
in the middle have the ball for my focus on speed dribbling and
close touches on the ball
(Modification) Encourage them to dribble and do a move in the box
and change their pace to find the next open teammate for more
advanced use of skill
Have the assistant coach walk around giving pointers for more
efficiency.
Focus on your first touch being controlled and strong to make sure It reaches your
partner
Scan behind you before receiving the ball to check for what would be defenders in
a real game
Communicate as to which foot you want to receive the ball with to encourage
communication and understanding from your teammate
Use this time to push yourself and make sure you have a change of speed after
leaving the middle square the change of speed is like “checking to your
teammate” in a game so make it game like
Table 3:
3:404:10 The Big Point Game
(refer to Table 4 for set up diagram shown only for set up, there will be more
people on each cone. Look below for numbers on each cone)
Divide into two teams
Arrange two little goalsone on each side of the attacking side facing the big
goal
Have one team distributed evenly on the posts of the big goal in two linesthey
are the defending team (7 in one line and 8 in the other)
The other team is in three lines on the 30yard line – 5 in each line
The head coach will be the ball distributer and will be positioned on the 30
yard line.
The assistant coach will be the score keeper
The goal of the attackers is to score three goals in one round in
order to gain THE BIG POINT
Each round the 3 attackers get three balls
The goal of the defenders is to steal the ball and score in one of the
two small goals
If the defenders score 3 goals before the attacking team scores a
big point then they switch roles and become the attackers.
Cycle through so each team has the chance to be attackers and
defenders and then collect all the BIG POINTS at the end for a
winner
This drill is a lot of fast reps through the rounds but will
incorporate conditioning and short sprints from both teams
Due to the fast reps it’s okay to have longer lines to give players
time to catch their breath and recover
(Modification) To encourage faster thinking and more movement
on and off the ball, set a rule for the offense where they only have
a certain amount of touches and passes before they can score. Ex:
each player is only allowed 2 touches and has to get at least 5
passes before going to goal
Make sure when attacking to work on combining and constant movement to
create more opportunities to goal
Think tactically on when the right time is to pass and when to shoot
Since it is a 3v2 situation when you are attacking you should have more space so
when you go to finish, look up see where the goalie is and place the ball.
When defending use constant communication so you know who is stepping vs
who is holding
When defending try to force one way to trap them out of bounds
Table 4:
4:104:25 Power of Finesse
(refer to Table 5 for set up diagram shown only for set up but there will be 15
players in each line)
Arrange a big goal in the middle of the field with space behind and around
the goal
Divide into two teams, each team lined up across from the post about 25
yards out 15 players in each line (each round lasts about 30 seconds so
okay to have longer lines. The lines will shorten as players get eliminated)
Team 1 will go first. Each person gets 1 ball passed to them that they have
to strike one touch before the 18yard line and a second ball that is in the
air that they have to finish one time out of the air inside the 18yard box.
Each team alternates if you make one you stay in the game, if you make
both you get to challenge someone on the other team and that person has
to make both or they are out of the game
If you don’t make either of your shots you go behind the goal and try to
catch loose balls that people kick over the goal
If you catch a ball you are back in the game. (this can be a safety hazard so
no diving for balls and always pay attention so you don’t get nailed in the
head or body with the ball)
The team with no players left loses the game
The goal is to work on your first touch like we did in the box of death
It is also to work on accuracy of your final strike
(Modification) if scoring is becoming too easy then set a rule where
they can only use their nondominant foot when shooting the ball to
urge them to focus more and improve their weaker foot
Pick up your head and see where the goalie is to help you place the ball in
the back of the net
Stay calm and collected to help keep your focus on the ball
When striking the ball out of the air, make sure to time it so you strike it as
its coming down
When shooting make sure to lean over the ball to keep the ball down and
to avoid the possibility of the ball going over and the other team catching
it.
Table 5:
4:254:50 5v5 transition (refer to Table 6 for set up)
Split up into 5 teams of 5
Arrange 4 big goals into two fields
Each field should be about 30 yards in length and 20 in width
They will be side by side with a 10yard gap in between known as “no
man’s land”
There will be a cone at either end of “no man’s land” behind the goals
about 10 yards back
It will be 5v5 on each field with one team in “no man’s land”.
Each team will scrimmage until one team scores. The team that scores gets
the ball out of the net and goes the opposite direction
While they get the ball, the losing team is off and has to sprint to either
cone in “no man’s land” and back and wait for the next team to score
While they sprint the team that was original in “no man’s land” will face
off against the team that scored
The team that is off, after they sprint, waits for any of the 4 teams to score
so then they can go in on either field
The goal of this game is to put everything you learned earlier in
practice into effect: first touch, movement off the ball and
combing, and accuracy and placement of your final strike when
shooting
The more composed you are in front of the net, the longer you stay
on the field and you don’t have to run that sprint
(Modification) Provide a touch limit so each player is moving and
it gets everyone on each team more involved
(Modification) If there is one team that is stronger in front of the
goal then set a rule where they can only score on a one touch
finish. This will urge more combinations and more tactical
thinking to challenge your players more.
Constantly communicate to your team to be more fluid with your
movement and attack.
Be composed in front of the net but don’t force the ball, it’s better to
possess the ball then waste an opportunity
Table 6:
4:504:57 Cool Down – jog to the half and back. Shake your legs out.
Same as warm up, get on side line and stretch Side lunge,
hamstring stretch, calf stretch, kicks front and backward
(refer to Table 7 for set up)
A little fun to end the practice: everyone gets a touch (refer to table
8 for set up you don’t need cones just your team and a ball)
Everyone stands in a big circle with one ball
Everyone gets a touch once you touch the ball you get out
of the circle
The goal is to keep the ball in the air and get
everyone a touch to end practice
This fun drill helps work on your touch and
communication skills
Make sure to communicate on who is going for the ball for
efficiency
Communication is key because it can be a safety hazard if
two people go for the same ball and collide into each other.
Make sure when you juggle the ball you hit it up to make it
easier for your teammates to keep the ball in the air when
they get their touch

4:47-5:00 Allow time for any questions from players or for the players- Provide feedback
about the practice. Evaluate practice and take the time to go over positives and
take aways going into next session
