accumulation of pollutants in the Brantas River, East Java originating from

domestic and industrial waste in the downstream has an impact on public health. The
number of people suffering from diseases caused by river water pollution is prominent for
 residents living in the lower reaches of the river. The majority of residents who live in the
downstream area use PDAM water for their daily needs, including drinking water needs.
Although it has been processed by a chemical mix PDAM to be in accordance with the
standards, a health expert from Universitas Brawijaya considers that PDAM water is not
suitable for consumption. It is feared that if people consume too much water from raw
materials that do not meet the quality standards, they can trigger cancer and others.

Factory Condition of PT RUM

The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) responded to cases of air

pollution in 5 villages in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java that occurred from October 2017
to early January 2018. Pollution allegedly carried out by PT. Rayon Utama Makmur
 (RUM) causes health problems for hundreds of residents, especially children. Children
become sick often and check their health to the Puskesmas. PT RUM itself is a factory that
produces synthetic fibers. In addition to complaining about air pollution, residents are also
disturbed by the stench that comes from the factory. As a result, as long as the plant
operates every day, children are forced to wear masks when doing activities outside the
home. In addition, children also feel nausea, dizziness and vomiting. KPAI plans to
supervise the location and will also coordinate with the Regent of Sukoharjo Regency and
related agencies.

RicePolluted by Factory Waste, This Is the Fate of Farmers in Rancaekek

Rice fields were destroyed and severely damaged by waste from textile factories

Agricultural land in Rancaekek, West Java was badly damaged due to factory
actions that disposed of careless waste. Residents suffer because of the poor quality of rice,
falling prices and difficulties in getting clean water. In the midst of difficulties, the regional
government instead of seeking a solution to improve the environment actually assessed that
rice fields were not productive and suggested that they become industrial estates. During
 this time, the government seemed to let the problem go on without any law enforcement
and permanent solutions.
