The Consequence of Long TV Watching Habit and the Solution

Anxiety and depression affects around 15 million Americans every year. Anxiety is a

feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with

an uncertain outcome. Depression is a feelings of severe despondency and dejection. Jacqueline

Cutler in “Binge-Watching May Affect Your Health” states that, watching TV in excess have a

bad effect on people health, mentality and medically. He discusses that people who have TV

watching habits specifically during two hours a night are suffering from depression, anxiety

differently than those who did not. they are a lot of things that can have bad influence on people

and watching TV for too long is one of them. Watching TV for longer period of time between 3

to 8 hours a day can affects people psychologically and physically because they isolate

themselves to do so, and the TV light interferes with their ability to sleep.

As previously mentioned, watching TV in excess have negative effects on people, and

can affects them psychologically. After watching TV for too long especially at night before

going to bed can make the watcher spend the night of thinking about what he or her saw on the

TV until to become insomnia. Watching too much television can lead to engaging in risky

behaviors. As it is mention in “Does Watching Television Affect Your Brain”. When you are

detached from the real world and living primarily in the world you see show on television, you

may be influenced to engage in the behaviors you see on television, such as smoking, drinking,

and doing illegal drugs. Also, people who watch too much television run the risk that their brains

will become too active or too excited from the fastness of the shows they watch. Some fear that

the brain will change in ways that lead to a shorter attention. they can feel sad and suffer from

depression. However, they also have difficulty of thinking and concentrating, as Cutler

mentioned” those who watching at least two hours of TV a night was twice as likely to report

feeling depression”, because they have difficulties to sleep, they feel lonely, and have negative

reflections. They become afraid or nervous especially about what may happen in the movies or

about what happened to them in the past,

Usually, those people are most likely stressed out. A variety of factors, including work,

education, family life, or relationships, can cause stress. It is important to try managing and

addressing these stressful situations when they arise. Because when you are stressed your body

releases stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. And make you think that nobody loves

you, they do not care about you, then you will feel very sad. That can affect them by making

them upset with everybody and even worse, they can hate life and planning to kill themselves.

Stress had a negative impact on mental health, life satisfaction, and general health.

As in example, I got one of my cousin that suffered from depression, her name is Sacha

she left her mom’s house and rent a new one by herself, she got a watching TV habit. Every day

after work, she brings some food and took her laptop and watch movies until she got to sleep.

Never went to the gym, or go hang out with a friend. as a result, she felt into depression. She

called my sister and told her that her mom did not likes her, her sisters neither. She said anyone

loves her, and decided to kill herself. My sister Kat went to see her and talked to her to see if she

will get better. After that, she was obliged to see a specialist because she was going to be crazy.

However, Watching TV in excess affect people not only psychologically but, also

physically and makes them anxious. Because TV watchers are not social person, they usually

isolate themselves to watch TV. However, having such habit can make them diabetic and get

cardiovascular disease. Just like Cutler states in the article. those persons have a significant

increase or decrease in appetite. Moreover, they usually eat a lot of sugar and become fat and

have an increased heart rate and increased sweating. They are less likely to exercise and more

inclined to snack on junk food. Those people use to eat more or less, they use to lose weight or

take too much weight. They also can have some back problems; poor posture can cause their

spine to be curved or weak. They can have insufficiency of oxygen; sitting for long periods of

time and never move reduce your lung capacity it is absence of physical activity, they also have

highest heartbeat than usual that can increase their risk for heart disease and stroke. They are

more likely to lose their hair too.

In conclusion, it is very important to work hard to avoid bad habit in everything, such as

food, TV, drugs, or any other things and always take care of yourself, because those things have

bad effect on people’s life. It can affect them in some negative ways, also can lead people in to

depression and anxiety. In order to avoid those problems, you have to stay near to positive

people to build strong relationships with them, and stay away from toxic people. Make friends

and go hang out with them. Go to the beach and have fun. Exercise regularly. Maintain a healthy

weight. Eat and sleep well. Stay away from TV and social media. Or limit yourself, or make it a

social thing and invite friends, family or kids to watch with you. And stop using alcohol and

drug.
