Part I. Brief History/Background of the Company profile

The Laguna Auto-parts Manufacturing Corporation

(LAMCOR) is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation

(MELCO) with International Elevator and Equipment (EEI) as the

other shareholder. LAMCOR is a pioneer in the manufacture of

alternators and starters for the automotive industry and at the

same time export these products to Japan, Asian countries and

the United States of America.

About Auto Parts

As a product, automotive is complex with large number of parts

and components (textiles, glass, plastics, electronics, rubber,

steel, and other metals) involving different production processes.

The promotion of the automotive industry can lead to an

expansion of many complementary investments by automotive

parts firms, particularly because the automotive industry is a

highly global industry, technology-driven and competition is

intense among its players.

Currently, the Philippine domestic auto parts indus try is

composed of 256 companies producing around 330 different parts

and components. With 4 Japanese automakers operating in the

country, the industry represents some growing agglomeration

economies in the Laguna and Cavite area.

The Philippine auto parts sector has continued to post

respectable growth and contribute significantly to manufacturing

value added (3%) and employment generation (5%). In 2009, it

employed a total of 50,858 workers, generated value added of

P28 billion and investment amounting to P5 billion. In 2010, auto

parts exports reached US$3.3 billion which represented almost

7% of total Philippine exports and an export growth of 27%.

The auto parts industry has also remained a net exporter

with balance of trade surpluses of US$3 billion in 2006 and

US$2.7 billion in 2010. The Philippines has comparative

advantage in a number of products like ignition/other wiring sets

for vehicles; radio receivers, external power; lead -acid electric

accumulators; brake system parts; transmissions for motor

vehicles; pneumatic tyres for motor cars and other parts and

components.

The auto parts industry is facing competitiveness issues

due to the absence of economies of scale and a weak supply

base. These are the fundamental issues that must be addressed

in order to strengthen the industry and integrate it with regional

production networks of global automakers. To help firms achieve

this, there is a need for strategic industrial upgrading policy and

carefully designed temporary subsidies that would target

improvement of firm competitiveness. Political will is needed to

address the illegal entry of used vehicles.

For domestic-oriented small and medium sized firms, the

challenge is improving their competitiveness to enable them to

compete in a more liberalized market. For export-oriented ones, it

is important to identify ways and measures on how to maintain

their competitiveness and take advantage of future opportunities.

In both types of firms, expanding existing linkages and

developing new ones would be crucial f or the industry’s growth

and development.

Amidst these challenges, there are market opportunities

that globalization brings and which the industry can take

advantage of. Forecasts show that Asia will be the most dynamic

market in the world, especially with the steady growth of China,

India, and the Southeast Asian countries. The creation of the

ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 along with other

ASEAN+1 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) offer increased trade

and investment opportunities, as well as cooperative

arrangements through joint ventures or mergers. There are also

strong growth potentials in specializing in certain core processes

and alternative fuel and E -vehicles and parts given growing

environmental and safety concerns.

Within the context of these opportunities and challenges, the

Philippine auto parts and components industry is envisioned to

become a significant player in the medium -term and become a

regional hub for vehicles and parts in Asia supported by a strong

domestic supplier base. In line with the strengths and

weaknesses of the industry, three major strategies are proposed

to be implemented: (i) enhancement of the competitiveness of

Filipino parts and components firms; (ii) creation of an incentive

program to support the adjustment of the parts and components

sector as the automotive industry is transformed from CKD

assembly to full manufacturing; and (iii) creation of a more

predictable environment for business operations.

Through the effective implementation of these policy measures,

the auto parts industry can realize its potent ial of being one the

key drivers of manufacturing growth by 2020, producing not only

for the domestic market but also for the regio nal and world

markets.

Part III. Reaction Paper by the Student with the F ollowing

suggested format:

1 Skill and Work Habit Learned in the T raining

 I learned to be responsible and appreciate the job given to

me. I also enhance my critical thinking skills and decision

making that helps me to improve my personality and ability.

2. My Experience during my OJT

a. With the people around me

 A place where I trained myself to improve my interpersonal

skill to mingle with those people around me. Sharing of

abilities and skills with my co-workers help me to

understand more about the industry I enter. However, there

were times also that my line leader for some reason got

mad about the sharing of tasks that we did, but I learned

how to calm myself as what my co-workers advised me to

do. I learned how to deal with my lane leader with respect

whatever the circumstances is. And I think that was the

best thing I did during my OJT, to deal with calmness and

respect to the people around me.

b. With the equipment used during the training

 I have familiarized with the discipline in using the

equipment. Reading the operational manual carefully and

listening comprehensively would help in understanding its

right function and uses. This will keep the operator use the

equipment safely. As well as safety measures, that shall

bear in mind all the time.

3. The Most Memorable Event during my On -The-Job Training

 The most memorable event during my On -the-Job training

was the Christmas Party held in Binan, Laguna. I a m happy

because after the everyday work finally I saw every one

merry without seeing the exhausted faces due to stressful

and tiring hours of work.

4. What I Can Recommend for the improvement of the On-The-

Job Training

 I recommend for the improvement OJT to find suited work

setting that will match the field of study taken by the

student.
5. My Suggestion to the Student Who Will Undergo On-The-Job

Training

 My suggestion to students is to take their training seriously.

Having a sound mind and exerting more e ffort in doing their

responsibilities with punctuality is needed in the whole

process of training.
I. INTRODUCTION

Learning is not only gain inside the school. The knowledge we gain

from school can only see the moment it is applied. According to Morgueis,

the knowledge of a student gained from the college professors are not

enough when only learned by pure imagination. That is why there is an

On-the-Job training. This is one method by which students is given a

chance to apply the lessons acquired from the school. It also helps the

students to gain useful knowledge and skills by performing in actual

working condition.

Students are subject to undergo an On-the-Job training as it require

by the colleges and universities within a specific number of hours as part

of the curriculum. All students have to undergo and complete OJT as a

prerequisite for graduation with any Diploma, Advanced Diploma/Bachelor.

OJT helps the students to improve performance at work place.

Also it adds diversified experience to improve the basic knowledge. It

takes place within the employee’s normal working condition to use the

existing environment, tools, and skill training available in the workplace to

train employees to do their future jobs.

As a student, we are enthusiast to finally have our first experience

on our chosen field but being in an OJT is not that easy at all. You will

encounter a lot of challenges facing different people in a different work

setting. Behaviour and attitude will shape as you go on.

Narration of how the company of assignment is located

 Laguna Auto-parts Manufacturing Corporation (LAMCOR) main

office was located at Sta. Rosa, Laguna. It is situated along the 102

South Science Ave. Laguna Technopark, Bo, Don Jose, Santa

Rosa, Laguna. It is where many other factories are located.

Recounting the feeling/emotion/sensation during the very first day of On-

The-Job Training

 I felt excited to gain knowledge and to apply the skills I have

learned inside the university and meet new people. At the same,

time I am nervous because I don’t know how I should act especially

with the people with different personalities.

Narration of experience while in the Company

 Before we start my On the Job Training (OJT) in Laguna Auto-parts

Manufacturing Corporation (LAMCOR). We’ve been through

orientation to familiarize with the rules and regulations, dos and

don’ts within the vicinity. Orientation was done to be familiarize and

knowledgeable on the rules and regulations of the company

together with other trainee.

We had started our On-the-job training on August 24 2018. We

were assigned in the 8GMi2 (GX8) department. In this department

we process the work in process (WIP) or the work piece to different

procedures. From core lathing, auto cosmorex painting, cost end dia
final check, cosmo diameter check and inside core filling, cosmo

inside repair, hot test, final electric test, LW final stripping, auto LW

final Positioning, Auto Lw final cutting or white marking, final visual

inspection, FVII repair, Auto final LW positioning, final LW checking

up to packing. Whereby the step I was assigned is to the final electric

test. In final electric test, I have to read the work sheet every time

before I start the machine operation. It is followed by the checking of

machine and its calibration sticker to make sure that the machine is

in good working condition then time to assess the work in process or

the work piece if the impulse, resistance, and voltage are working

right cause if not it have no use anymore.

We have a free shuttle that we can ride on heading to the

company. In this shuttle, we have to be one hour early so we would

not left behind thus I have learned to move ahead of time and move

as fast as I can.

It’s not easy working in a factory. Standing for 8 hours, 12 hours

and worst is 16 hours of work. Sometimes our line leader asking me

to duty for 16 hours due to lack of workers it was really hard for me.

Usually I am lack of sleep because of graveyard shift. It could have

been worst without the presence of my co-workers whom I spend

time working together.

workers of LAMCOR are. They are very punctual and disciplined maybe

because they adopt the punctuality of a Japanese company.

Participation

Everyone is participative. Everyone is willing to help when

somebody needs help.

Challenges

The challenge I encounter is the number of work in process (WIP)

in line. Another is those people with complicated character that I need to

respect and understand.

Problem Encountered

Machine trouble is my biggest problem. I did not know what to do

with the number of work in process (WIP) yet my machine is not working

properly.
Corrective Measured Made

I refer it to the line leader and then she asked for the help of the

maintenance.
