Market your music.
Before bombarding random music labels with promo remember to you check this lists:

Do a reserch and make a list of label related to your music genre then think about why do I choose this labels

Does my music fit to the style of this music label?

- Answer: Rhythm and harmonic parts should be associated with label and artist

Is my music unique? Did I developed my own style of music?

- Answer: listeners should recognize the tracks

Does my track has a “hook”?

- Answer: tracks need to have melody elements and beats that vary

Top labes want to offer high quality music with a unique style. Not only the music in general is important for us, also the way the
artists present themselves. The whole “package” has to be professional. They expect the highest producing standards as well as a
sovereign appearance on website, Facebook, Soundcloud. . .

How do I submit my demos:

- Send only one link to your MP3 or FTP server in the email
!Avoid attachments in the email, this takes too long to download!

- Mp3 320kbps, no myspace links, only source labels consider for streaming tracks is soundcloud

- If is possible add to your demo pack a short release information with all the useful links (Ex. with Marcos Baiano )
Get signed.
You will receive a contract and hopefully some money !

Start your own music label.
Before getting started you should make some decision:

1) Which is going to be your music genere

2) Logo & design which could be related to the music

3) Sign unknown artist or pay already estabilished one

- which can cause a “pain in your” pocket” but will let your label jumps some stage and be more competitive with bigger one

4) Choosing the best route to market

- Using a digital / physical distributor and the benefits related to them (Ex. Contract with Intergroove)
(don’t forget to choose the one that will represent your music at the best):

a) Production - these companies will help you to encode your files and complete the metadata, you only need to send
them wave files and artwork

b) Delivery - In general they do have one contract with all the online retailers with same price generally is the 20/25% of
the PPD

c) Management - ensuring files are available and coordinated to appear in the right place in the right time; do the
accounting which will save you time

d) Marketing - distributors already have relationship with the retailers and can get effective and innovative placement for
you music. Good marketing is the key to sales! The deal is called Press & Distribution
- Or dealing direct with the ratailers:

a) cutting out distributor cuts out middle-man

b) some retailers don’t charge for uploading your music
c) dealing directly with retail manager

d) Some retailers prefer to deal with the distributors like Beatport and Itunes
e) you need to encode all the files
f ) you have to deals with different stores with different prices = accounting will be a nightmare!

“In both cases you’ll need to have a presentation with the concept of the label with at least two releases ready”

- Selling downloads from your website:

a) can drive traffic straight to website and gain fan / artist relationship
b) help to sell other merchandise
c) can be turn around quickly
d) less appropriate to label without backcatalogue

5) Bureaucracy:

- Start a business account with you bank

- Join PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited)
- Start as a sole trader, VAT is not necessary
