TITLE: CORROSION INHIBITION

Purpose: To know the purpose and the operation of the corrosion inhibitor skid

PURPOSE OF CORROSION INHIBITOR INJECTION

The corrosion inhibitor injected upstream each choke valve will reduce the pipes corrosion. The product used is
COREXIT 1969 and is coating the surface of the pipes with a film which is protecting the metal from being in direct
contact with well effluent such as CO2, free water, H2S...

OPERATION

The corrosion inhibitor is stored in a 4.6 m3 tank where the pure product is diluted with water to obtain the proper
dilution rate of 10 % i.e. 10% of the mixture is pure product, the rest is water (refer to the calculation below). The air
(for WP1) or gas (all other remote WHD) driven piston pumps take suction in this tank and inject the corrosion
inhibitor up-stream the choke of each flowing wells. The injection rate is adjusted to obtain 0.5 l / MMscfd of pure
product. The corresponding pump has to be started each time the well is put on line and this is done using a push
button located on the well control panel (Haven panel). The injection rate has to be adjusted also every time the gas
flow of the well is significantly modified (more than 5 MMscf).

Calculations for storage tank fill up

We need to know the volume of Corexit and then the number of drums to add.
Volume of Corexit required Vc = Vt * (100-L) * D

Number of Correxit drum needed N = Vc/Vd

Where
Storage tank volume Vt = 4.6 m3
Level in storage tank L = 30 %
Dilution D = 10 %
Volume of Corexit drum Vd = 208 liters

Calculation gives

Vc = 4.6 * (100-30) * 10
100 100
= 0.322 m3 or 322 liters
N = 322/208
= 1.5
In the example taken here one and a half drum of Corexit will be put in the storage tank and the rest of the volume
completed with water.
