Praxis Core Exam Analysis

The Praxis Core Exam is needed to be passed for a student to continue any education

courses at UNLV, NSC, or UNR while striving for their Bachelor’s degree. The passing scores

for Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading is 156. The passing scores for Core Academic

Skills for Educators: Writing is 162. The passing scores for Core Academic Skills for Educators:

Mathematics is 150. Exam takers must pass the Praxis Core Exam in order to be eligible to teach

in the state of Nevada. My results for the Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading is a 162.

I passed this exam on the first attempt. My results for the Core Academic Skills for Educators:

Writing came to 156 on the first attempt and a 164 on my second attempt. My results for the

Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics is a 146. This is the only exam I have left to

take and I plan on retaking it next week.

When I first took the combined Praxis Core Exam, I was not exactly sure what to expect.

I did not do enough preparation to ensure that I was ready to pass the Math, Reading, and

Writing segments. I did not participate in any online practice tests. The most preparation that I

did for the exams is Google what the Praxis Core Exam is. I underestimated the importance of

these exams as well as the difficulty level. When I went back over a year later to retake my

Praxis Core Writing Exam, I was much more prepared, I took a Praxis Exam and studied the

material covered. I also reviewed the Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing Study

Companion (PDF) that discussed additional material that could be expected on the Exam.

I used different methods to prepare myself for the Practice Exam assigned. Since I

already passed the Reading and Writing Praxis Core Exams, I only took the Mathematics

Practice Test. For that exam, I scored in the 74% range, which is borderline. If I study the
material covered in the practice exam, as well as additional material I will be likely to pass the

official Mathematics section when I take the Praxis Core Exam.

To pass my Math Praxis Exam, I will study the material that I learned from doing the

Practice Praxis Exam. When going in for my second attempt on the Writing Praxis Exam, I took

the Practice Exam and studied that material and I ended up passing with a much higher score

than I did previously. An additional step that I will take is to participate in more practice exams

and review the Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics Study Companion (PDF),

which is a 43-page booklet that goes over the major concepts typically seen on the official Praxis

Core Exam.
