CAUTION
! When shifting the select lever to D range, the brakes should be applied so that the vehicle does
not move forward.
! Driving tests always need two persons: one driver and one observer.
NOTE: *1: If the idle speed is lower than the standard value on a very cold engine [approximately "20#C ("
4#F)] even when the IAC motor is fully opened, the air volume limiter built in the throttle body could be defec-
tive.
NOTE: *2: In a new vehicle [driven approximately 500 km (311 mile) or less], the step of the stepper motor is
sometimes 30 steps greater than the standard value.
NOTE: *3: The injector drive time represents the time when the cranking speed is at 250 r/min or below when
the power supply voltage is 11 volts.
NOTE: *4: In a new vehicle [driven approximately 500 km (311 mile) or less], the injector drive time is some-
times 10% longer than the standard time.
NOTE: *5: In a new vehicle [driven approximately 500 km (311 mile) or less], the volume airflow sensor output
frequency is sometimes 10% higher than the standard frequency.
NOTE: *6: GST items. [Data list items consist of MUT-III items and GST items. GST items can be accessed
through the use of a general scan tool (GST). When scan tool MB991958 (MUT-III sub assembly) is used,
MUT-III items appear alphabetically; then, GST items appear alphabetically. The black and white characters
of the GST items are inverted from the MUT-III items.]
NOTE: *7:Vehicles for Canada, the headlight, taillight, etc. remain lit even when the lighting switch is in "OFF"
position but this is no problem for checks.

The closed throttle position adjusting screw should not be
moved unnecessarily; it has been precisely adjusted by
the manufacturer. If the adjustment is disturbed for any
reason, readjust as follows.
1. Loosen the tension of the accelerator cable sufficiently.
2. Back out the closed throttle position adjusting screw lock
nut.
3. Turn the closed throttle position adjusting screw
counterclockwise until it is sufficiently backed out, and fully
close the throttle valve.
4. Turn the closed throttle position adjusting screw clockwise
until the throttle lever is touched (i.e., the point at which the
FIXED SAS
throttle valve begins to open).
From that point, turn the closed throttle position adjusting
AK100597AB screw clockwise another 1-1/4 turn.
5. While holding the closed throttle position adjusting screw so
that it doesn’t move, tighten the lock nut securely.
6. Adjust the tension of the accelerator cable.
7. Adjust the basic idle speed. (Refer to P.13A-957.)

400#C (752#F) or more] is not reached although the heated
oxygen sensor is normal, the output voltage would be possibly
low although the rich air/fuel ratio. Therefore, if the output volt-
age is low, use jumper wires to connect the terminal No. 3 and
the terminal No. 4 of the heated oxygen sensor with a (+) termi-
nal and (") terminal of 12 volts power supply respectively, then
check again.
3. If the output voltage is not within the standard value, replace
the heated oxygen sensor.
NOTE: For removal and installation of the heated oxygen sen-
sor, refer to GROUP 15, Exhaust Manifold P.15-11.

(2) Make sure that there is continuity [11 " 18 ohms at 20#C
HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (68#F)] between terminal No. 3 and terminal No. 4 on the
EQUIPMENT SIDE CONNECTOR heated oxygen sensor connector
(3) If there is no continuity, replace the heated oxygen
sensor.
(4) Warm up the engine until engine coolant is 80#C (176#F)
or higher.

(5) Rev the engine for 5 minutes or more with the engine
JUMPER speed of 4,500 r/min.

(6) Connect a digital voltage meter between terminal No. 4
and terminal No. 2.
2. While repeatedly revving the engine, measure the heated
oxygen sensor output voltage.
Standard value:
CAUTION
! Be very careful when connecting the jumper wire;
incorrect connection can damage the heated oxygen
sensor.
! Be careful the heater is broken when voltage of beyond
12 volts is applied to the heated oxygen sensor heater.
NOTE: If the sufficiently high temperature [of approximate
400#C (752#F) or more] is not reached although the heated
oxygen sensor is normal, the output voltage would be possibly
low although the rich air/fuel ratio. Therefore, if the output volt-
age is low, use jumper wires to connect the terminal No. 3 and
the terminal No. 4 of the heated oxygen sensor with a (+) termi-
nal and (") terminal of 12 volts power supply respectively, then
check again.
3. If the output voltage is not within the standard value, replace
the heated oxygen sensor.
NOTE: For removal and installation of the heated oxygen sen-
sor, refer to GROUP 15, Exhaust Pipe and Main Muffler P.15-
14.
