BTPS,POWER GENERATION,TOTAL QUANTITY OF FLY ASH GENERATED
AND THEIR USES IN BALLARI” is prepared by me in accordance with the rules of
the institution during 2018 - 19 and submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirement for
the award of degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at RYM
Engineering College, under the guidance of Asst.Prof.ADANA GOUDA, Department of
Civil Engineering, RYM Engineering College, Bellary.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Any achievement big or small should have a catalyst and a costant encouragement and
advice of valuable and noble minds for our efforts to bring out this seminar work .

The satisfaction that accompanies the successful culmination of any task would be
incomplete without mentioning those who made it possible because success is the

ABSTRACT
This report is aimed on the technical seminar on “Construction features of BTPS, Power
generation and total quantity of fly ash generated and their uses in BALLARI . “A
generating station which converts heat generated from the coal combustion into electrical
energy with the help of turbines is known a thermal power station”. Ballari power plant is
a coal based power plant, the power is generated in three units of capacity two of 500 mw
and one of 700 mw. Ballari power plant is owned by KPCL government of Karnataka,
BTPS is is constructed in 1850 acres having 550 employs. the coal is supplied from
western mines located in Nagpur and Chhattisgarh by a private companies. The water is
supplied to BTPS from Maralihalli, Dhanapur village, Gangavati taluk , koppal dist.
Length of pipe line is 43km Diameter of the pipe is 1.5mt, the raw water pond having a
capacity of 0.5 tmc. To generate 500 mw of power it consumes 320 tones of coal per
hour, it consumes 7680 tones of coal per day. The ash produced from coal burning is
handled in two ways wet and fly ash. The ash is generally used for manufacturing of
cement and brick in ballari. Currently only two units of 500 mw are generating the
power, the third unit was stopped due to lack of coal.
