teacher and classmates by
answering questions or offering
suggestions
● Demonstrates good
sportsmanship by taking turns
effectively or being supportive
of classmates
● Uses materials appropriately
Approaching Expectations
Participation deviates from the
“Engaged” standard in ​one​ or more of the
following ways:
● Is off-task during individual or
group activities or does not
participate
● Does not follow directions for
singing, playing or movement
(singing in a silly voice, using
instruments improperly, etc.)
● Demonstrates poor
sportsmanship by expressing
difficulty sharing, arguing with
classmates, or making negative
comments regarding the
performance of the class
● Misuses classroom materials

Establishing Expectations
Participation shows extreme deviation
from the “Engaged” standard in ​two
or more of the following ways:
● Refuses to participate/Off-task
behavior disrupts activities
and disrupts other students
● Off-task behavior during
singing, moving, or playing
disrupts the activity
● Responds to teacher or other
students with inappropriate or
disrespectful responses.
● Demonstrates poor
sportsmanship by expressing
difficulty sharing, arguing with
classmates, or making
negative comments regarding
the performance of the class
or of individual students
● Misuses classroom materials
