Overall Semester
My prospects taking this course were to be hearing the professor lecture about English
and read about an old boring book in which I would not find interesting at all. I’m surprised by
how much information I was capable to implement in writing a paper without even
acknowledging I was writing differently. I never really understood what critical think was until I
took this class and viewed and went in depth such as for example essay one really trying to
pinpoint my idea and sorting it out my ideas. Also pointing out reading is a hobby a mine I can
read a book in week if I truly like it, but I never really paused and retreaded again and view the
book different every time I read it. I would only remember the main points of the book but never
really go back and see if I missed anything because I would assume, I was finish but reality a
book can have many viewpoints. In my previous English class that I took I was completely bored
I didn’t understand the book she assigned so I wasn’t as involved with my writing skills but in
this class I was intuit with what I was writing I was able to critically think, actively read, and
I have never been a good writer; I tried to always just meet the requirements and be done
with a paper. In this course you went step by step, of the process of writing a paper that I truly
never considered because I thought you did not need to invest time in a paper. My weakness
when writing a paper have been topic sentences matching the paragraph in which I will hopefully

try to improve on. My strengths in writing would be implementing quotes and my body
paragraphs because I am able to go more in depth with information I what to put unlike a thesis. I
would like to able to overall improve on writing more clearly written sentences as well as my
organization in a paper.
Some of the activities we did during this course were extremely helpful. The activity that
really stood out to me was reading the novel “Still Saints Water” by Alex Espinoza. This book
made me really use all the techniques such as critical thinking, be an active reader, and better at
quoting. It truly made me view different points of view, and it had many values that could not
have been read in one reading. I really didn’t like the first essay we had to write about choosing a
group of specific college students and writing a solution. I felt the prompt was so broad I could
have easily gone in many directions and miss the prompt. All the activities, we did in class I did
Taking all, I have learned from taking this course I can truly say I can possible use in
everyday life. I can critical think about what I want to say and question it with a saying so what. I
can actively read when I read books and try to understand each chapter and write note. I can
effectively say I have improved slightly in my writing skills, but I know it is a long journey to
perfection. I’m grateful you were able to teach the class where I can say I truly learned
something again especially considering English is my native language and I should be proficient
in my writing, but I am not. These are techniques that I will take and implement them in my
