I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to;
1. Gives a brief biography of selected Contemporary Philippine composers
according to Traditional music; Lucio san Pedro, Rodolfo Cornejo, Hilarion
Rubio, Ryan Cayabyab; new music; Josefino Toledo, Ramos P. Santos,
Francisco Feliciano, Jose Maceda and song composers; Ernani Cuenco,
Restie Umalie, George Canseco, Levi Celerio. (MU10CM-IIIcg-3)
2. Enumerate the compositions of selected Contemporary Philippine
composers according to Traditional music, New music and Song
composers.
3. Sings selections of Contemporary music with appropriate pitch, rhythm,
style, and expression (MU10CM-IIIbh-4)

A. Activity
 Let the students enumerate the compositions of the selected
Contemporary Philippine composers.

 What is the most familiar composition base on the
student’s list of selected contemporary Philippine
composer’s compositions?
c. Abstraction
 Traditional Composers
Lucio San Pedro- is known as a romantic nationalist. Famous
composition are ugoy ng duyan, leron leron sinta, albok nag
into and pasko sa amin.
Rodolfo Cornejo – the researcher and official composer of
the Philippine government in exile, under President Manuel L.
Quezon. Famous Composition are Okaka and Ibong Adarna.
Hilarion Rubio – a composer, music teacher, conductor, and
clarinetist. Famous composition are Mutya ng silangan and
magandang araw.
Ryan Cayabyab – a contemporary composers and conductor.
Famous compostion are kay ganda ng ating musika and nais
ko.
 New Music
Josefino Toledo – the founding music director of the Metro
Manila Community Orchestra. Famous composition are alitaptap
and ako and daigdig.
Ramon P. Santos- compositional style features chromaticism,
music seria, and electronic components. Famous composition are
Awit ni Pulao and Ritwal ng pasasalamat II
Francisco Feliciano – leading figures in liturgical music. Famous
compostion are Pamugun and Silence my soul
Jose Maceda- a national cultural identity. Famous composition
are Udlot- Udlot and Pagsamba.
 Song Composers
Ernani Cuenco- national artist for music in 1999. Famous
composition are Gaano kita kamahal and Bato sa buhangin.
Restie Umali- a composer, teaching, and musical arranger.
Famous composition are Saan ka man naroroon and Di ka nagiisa.
George Canseco- a nationally acclaimed composer. Famous
composition are Ikaw and Kailangan kita.
Levi Celerio- The only person to make a music with a leaf.
Famous composition are Ang Pipit and Sa ugoy ng Duyan.
