SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS IN SUB STATIONS :-

A. In Case of Sub Stations with SINGLE BUS arrangement

Issuing LINE CLEAR on an EHV LINE

 Check whether the requested Line clear is pre-arranged, approved


by competent officers or due to Emergency.
 Contact the other Sub Station/s connected to the Line for
information.
 Hand trip the Line.
 If Line charge indication is provided, ensure indication is OFF.
 Ascertain the same in other Sub Station/s connected to the Line.
 Open the Line isolator of the Line.
 Ascertain opening of the Line isolator in the other Sub Station/s
connected to the Line for ensuring that the Line can be earthed.
 Earth the requisitioned Line. Inform the other Sub Station/s
connected to the Line.
 Issue Line Clear on the requisitioned Line.
 Display LINE CLEAR board on the panel of the Line which is under
Line Clear.

In Case of Sub Stations with TWO BUS arrangement

BUS CHANGE OVER (Bus-2 is assumed to be free)

 If Bus Bar Protection is provided, ascertain whether the same is to


be kept out of service during the Bus change over operation.
 Close Bus-2 PT Isolator.
 Close Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Close Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker and energise Bus-2.
 Check secondary voltages of Bus-2 PTs.
 If PT Voltages are normal, Close Bus-2 Isolators of all the Bays
one after the other.
 Ascertain proper closing of each of the Isolator.
 After closing of all the Bus-2 Isolators, make the PT change over.
 If the PT change over is from the PT selection switches provided
in C&R panels, put the PT selection switches to Bus-2 position in
all the Bay panels.
 Ascertain the selection of Bus-2 PT by observing the 75B relay if
provided or in the Energy Meter in each panel.
 If the PT change over is from the Isolator aux switch contacts,
observe the pick up condition of PT selection relay (75B) or in the
Energy Meter in each panel to ascertain selection of Bus-2 PT.
 If Bus Bar Protection is in service, ascertain the Bus-2 zone
selection in the Bus Bar protection relay.
 Temporarily, block the operations of EFR of the Bus Coupler Panel.

 Open the Bus-1 Isolator of all the Bays.


 While opening each Bus-1 Isolator, ascertain that there is no
arcing/abnormality in the Bus-2 Isolator.
 Hand trip the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.
 Check whether the Bus-1 PT secondary Voltages become zero.
 Open the Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Open Bus-1 PT Isolator.
 Now Bus-1 will be free.
 If Bus Bar Protection was kept out of service during the Bus
change over operation, ascertain the selection of Bus-2 Zone
selection of each bay in the Bus Bar scheme.
 Check for any relay operation indications and reset the same.
 Restore the Bus Bar Protection.
 Normalise the operations of EFR in the Bus Coupler panel.

BUS CHANGE OVER (in case Both buses are engaged)

 Tie both the Buses by Closing Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.


 If Bus Bar Protection is provided, ascertain whether the same is to
be kept out of service during the Bus change over operation.
 Decide the Bus to be made free. (Now, Bus-1 is assumed to be
made free)
 Close Bus-2 Isolators of all the Bays one after the other.
 Ascertain proper closing of each of the Isolator.
 After closing of all the Bus-2 Isolators, make the PT change over.
 If the PT change over is from the PT selection switches provided in
C&R panels, put the PT selection switches to Bus-2 position in all
the Bay panels.
 Ascertain the selection of Bus-2 PT by observing the 75B relay if
provided or in the Energy Meter in each panel.
 If the PT change over is from the Isolator aux switches contacts,
observe the pick up condition of PT selection relay (75B) or in the
Energy Meter in each panel to ascertain selection of Bus-2 PT.
 Temporarily, block the operations of EFR of the Bus Coupler Panel.
 Open the Bus-1 Isolator of the Bays which were fed from Bus-1.
 While opening each Bus-1 Isolator, ascertain that there is no
arcing/abnormality in the Bus-2 Isolator.
 Hand trip the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.
 Check whether the Bus-1 PT secondary Voltages become zero.

 Open the Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Open Bus-1 PT Isolator.
 Now Bus-1 will be free.
 If Bus Bar Protection is kept out of service during the Bus change
over operation, ascertain the selection of Bus-2 Zone selection of
each bay in the Bus Bar scheme.
 Check for any relay operation indications and reset the same.
 Restore the Bus Bar Protection.
 Normalise the operations of EFR in the Bus Coupler panel.

CHANGE OVER OF A LINE BAY ON BUS COUPLER


OFFLINE OR WITH INTERRUPTION.

 If Bus Bar Protection is provided, ascertain whether the same is to


be kept out of service during the Load change over operation.
 If both Buses are in use, make one Bus free by shifting of the loads
of all the Bays to one Bus.
 Now, Bus-2 is assumed to be free.
 Hand trip the Circuit Breaker of the Line which is to be taken on Bus
Coupler.
 Open the Isolators before and after the Circuit Breaker.
 Open the Bus-1 Isolator of the same Line.
 Close Bus-2 PT Isolator.
 Close Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Close the Bus-2 Isolator of the Line to be taken on Bus Coupler.
 Close the Under Hung Isolator of the same Line.
 Extending Protection -
 If the CTs are provided on the Line side of the Bay, put the
Protection Transfer switch in the Line Panel to TRANSFER position
to extend the protection.
 If the CTs are provided near the Circuit Breaker of the Line Bay,
keep the settings of the Distance Protection and Back Up Protection

in the Bus Coupler panel same as the Line to be taken on Bus
Coupler.
 In case the Bus Coupler panel is provided with BUS TIE / LINE
selector switch, put the switch to LINE position.
 In case the Bus Coupler panel is provided with BUS selector switch,
put the switch to BUS-1 position.
 Close the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker to energise the Line.
 If Bus Bar Protection was kept out of service during the Load
change over operation, ascertain the selection of proper Bus Zone
in the Bus Bar scheme.
 Check for any relay operation indications and reset the same.
 Restore the Bus Bar Protection.

NORMALISING OF A LINE BAY FROM BUS


COUPLER - OFFLINE OR WITH INTERRUPTION.

 Make sure that the Circuit Breaker of the Line which was taken on
Bus Coupler is in OPEN condition.
 Hand trip the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.
 Open the Under Hung Isolator of the Line which was taken on Bus
Coupler.
 Open the Bus-2 Isolator of the Line which was taken on Bus
Coupler.

 Close the Isolators before and after the Circuit Breaker of the Line
which was taken on Bus Coupler.
 Close the Bus-1 Isolator of the same Line.
 Close the Circuit Breaker of the same line to energise the Line.
 Open the Bus-2 PT Isolator.
 Open Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Ascertain the selection of proper Bus Zone selection of the bay in
the Bus Bar scheme.

CHANGE OVER OF A LINE BAY ON BUS COUPLER


ON-LINE OR WITH OUT INTERRUPTION.

 If Bus Bar Protection is provided, ascertain whether the same is to be


kept out of service during the Load change over operation.
 If both Buses are in use, make one Bus free by shifting of the loads
of all the Bays to one Bus.
 Now, Bus-2 is assumed to be free.
 Close Bus-2 PT Isolator.
 Close Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Close the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker and check the PT secondary
Voltages of Bus-2 PTs.
 Extending Protection -
 If the CTs are provided on the Line side of the Bay, put the
Protection Transfer switch in the Line Panel to INTER position to
extend the protection.
 If the CTs are provided near the Circuit Breaker of the Line Bay, keep
the settings of the Distance Protection and Back Up Protection in the
Bus Coupler panel same as the Line to be taken on Bus Coupler.
 In case the Bus Coupler panel is provided with BUS TIE / LINE
selector switch, put the switch to LINE position.
 In case the Bus Coupler panel is provided with BUS selector switch,
put the switch to BUS-1 position.

 Temporarily, block the operations of EFR of the Line Panel and Bus
Coupler Panel.
 In the Line Bay to be taken on Bus Coupler, Close the Bus-2 Isolator
and Open the Bus-1 Isolator.
 Close the Under Hung Isolator of the Line Bay to be taken on Bus
Coupler. Ensure proper closing of the under hung Isolator.
 Hand trip the Line Circuit Breaker. Ensure that there is no arcing in
the Under Hung Isolator.
 Open the Isolators before and after the Circuit Breaker in the Line
Bay.
 Normalise the operations of EFR in the Line Panel and Bus Coupler
panel.
 Put the protection Transfer switch if provided in the Line panel to
TRANSFER position.
 If Bus Bar Protection was kept out of service during the Load change
over operation, ascertain the selection of proper Bus Zone in the Bus
Bar scheme.
 Check for any relay operation indications and reset the same.
 Restore the Bus Bar Protection.

NORMALISING OF A LINE BAY FROM BUS


COUPLER – ONLINE OR WITH OUT INTERRUPTION.

 If Bus Bar Protection is provided, ascertain whether the same is to


be kept out of service during the Load change over operation.
 If the CTs are provided on the Line side of the Bay, put the
Protection Transfer switch in the Line Panel to INTER position.
 Make sure that the Circuit Breaker of the Line which was taken on
Bus Coupler is in OPEN condition.
 Temporarily, block the operations of EFR of the Line Panel and Bus
Coupler Panel.
 Close the Isolators before and after the Circuit Breaker in the Line
Bay which was taken on Bus Coupler.
 Close the Circuit Breaker of the Line which was taken on Bus
Coupler.
 Open the Under Hung Isolator of the Line which was taken on Bus
Coupler. Ensure that there is no arcing in the Isolators before and
after the Circuit Breaker of the Line.
 In the Line Bay which was on Bus Coupler, Close the Bus-1 Isolator
and Open the Bus-2 Isolator.
 Normalise the operations of EFR in the Line Panel and Bus Coupler
panel.
 Open the Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.

 Open Bus-1 and Bus-2 Isolators of Bus Coupler Bay.
 Open Bus-2 PT Isolator.
 Put the protection Transfer switch if provided in the Line panel to
NORMAL position.
 If Bus Bar Protection was kept out of service during the Load
change over operation, ascertain the selection of proper Bus Zone
in the Bus Bar scheme.
 Check for any relay operation indications and reset the same.
 Restore the Bus Bar Protection.

CHANGE OVER OF A LINE/TRANSFORMER BAY ON


TRANSFER BUS.
OFFLINE OR WITH INTERRUPTION.

 Hand trip the Circuit Breaker of the Bay which is to be taken on


Transfer Bus.
 Open the Isolators 89C and 89A or 89B (which ever was closed) in
the Bay which is to be taken on Transfer Bus.
 Ensure that the Transfer Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker is in OPEN
condition.
 Close 89A or 89B (which ever was closed in the bay which is to be
taken on Transfer Bus) and 89D Isolators of Transfer Bus Coupler
Bay.
 Put the Protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which is
to be taken on Transfer Bus to TRANSFER position to extend the
protection.
 Close the Transfer Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker to energise the Bay.

NORMALISING OF A LINE/TRANSFORMER BAY


FROM TRANSFER BUS.
OFFLINE OR WITH INTERRUPTION.

 Make sure that the Circuit Breaker of the Bay which was taken on
Transfer Bus Coupler is in OPEN condition.
 Hand trip the Transfer Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.
 Open the Isolators 89D and 89A or 89B (which ever was closed) in
the transfer Bus Coupler bay.
 Put the Protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which was
taken on Transfer Bus to NORMAL position.
 Close the Isolators 89C and 89A or 89B (which ever required) in the
Bay which was taken on Transfer Bus.
 Close the Circuit Breaker of the Bay to energise the Bay.

CHANGE OVER OF A LINE/TRANSFORMER BAY


ON TRANSFER BUS.
ON-LINE OR WITH OUT INTERRUPTION.

 Put the Protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which is to
be taken on Transfer Bus to INTER position.
 Close 89A or 89B (which ever was closed in the bay which is to be
taken on Transfer Bus) and 89D Isolators of Transfer Bus Coupler
Bay.
 Close the Transfer Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker and energise Transfer
Bus.
 In the Bay to be taken on Bus Coupler, Close the 89D Isolator.
 Put the Protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which is to
be taken on Transfer Bus to TRANSFER position.
 Hand trip the Bay Circuit Breaker. (In some sub station schemes, the
Bay Circuit Breaker will trip once the Protection Transfer switch is put
to TRANSFER position).
 Open the Isolators 89C and 89A or 89B (which ever was closed) in
the Bay which is to be taken on Transfer Bus.

NORMALISING OF A LINE BAY FROM TRANSFER


BUS – ONLINE OR WITH OUT INTERRUPTION.

 Put the Protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which was
taken on Transfer Bus to INTER position.
 Close the Isolators 89C and 89A or 89B (which ever required) in the
Bay which was taken on Transfer Bus.
 Close the Circuit Breaker of the Bay.
 Hand trip the Transfer Bus Coupler Circuit Breaker.
 Open the Isolators 89D and 89A or 89B (which ever was closed) in
the transfer Bus Coupler bay.
 Put the protection Transfer switch in the Panel of the bay which was
taken on Transfer Bus to NORMAL position.
