Alcohol is part of our society.

People use it to celebrate, socialize, relax, and enhance the enjoyment of

meals.

Filipinos' wine consumption increases by 10 per cent each year. In 1995, Filipinos were seen
to be the number one wine drinkers in Asia consuming a total of 146,000 bottles of wine
that year.

Generally, however, beer is the favourite among Filipinos principally because of its
affordability compared to hard drinks. In 1998, the Filipinos were reported to have
consumed about 1.25 billion litres of beer (equivalent to 3.9 billion of beer bottles). But
among youth drinkers, even at $30 cents a bottle, beer is relatively expensive for them. A
$40 cents bottle of Tanduay gin, which is stronger or more intoxicating, can fill a few hours
of drinking for a small group. Middle and upper class Filipinos, on the other hand, with a
much greater disposable income, could spend more money on alcohol, treating themselves
to the likes of Johnny Walker and Chivas Regal which cost up to $50.

Beers are widely available in grocery and convenience stores, but whisky, wine and other
alcoholic drinks are supposedly purchasable only at licensed liquor stores. But this is not
always the case. Due to lax monitoring and implementation, hard drinks can also be bought
in many regular stores, even by teenagers.

Alcoholism, also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), is a broad term for any drinking of alcohol that
results in mental or physical health problems

Alcohol use can affect all parts of the body, but it particularly affects the brain, heart, liver, pancreas and
immune system.[3][4] This can result in mental illness, Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome, irregular
heartbeat, liver cirrhosis and increased cancer risk, among other diseases.[3][4] Drinking during
pregnancy can cause damage to the baby resulting in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.[2] Women are
generally more sensitive than men to the harmful phys

Introduction

Alcoholism The reason why I chose to research this topic is because lots and lots of people tend to drink
a lot. I wonder why they love to drink so much, I mean its not even that good it taste so bitter and have
this really stinky stench. I've always wonder why my family likes to drink it so much for any special
occasions that we do, all I see is drink, drink and drink everywhere. Why do they love to drink so much, I
don't see any good from it and I think it makes you more stupider. Why do people like alcohol so much?
The health issue for drinking alcohol is that to many underage kids are drinking to much. They drink
even when they are not suppose to especially if they were at a party they would want to look cool and
go drinking with other peer. Parents are always concern about teens who drink cause the damage to
there life can't get back easily. The controversy surrounding alcohol is that College students and other
teens believe that they should be able to drink at the age of 18 and while parents and other authorities
think that the legal age for drinking should be 21. Parents don't want anyone one under 21 to drink is
because if they drink they might get addicted to alcohol and may get into a lot of stupid troubles\

Teenagers and Alcohol Teenagers and alcohol is a topic about which people have strongly contrasting
views, especially in relation to the opinions of the authorities and teenagers. Some of the main issues
that will be covered are age, behaviour, health, problems, legislation and cost. The law has a major part
to play in this topic, as the police have to uphold the law when they get a call from a resident,
shopkeeper or passer-by and this is where the conflict around the issue arises. Personally, I am against
the idea of illegal drinking but I realise that it is a complex issue An example of what may happen when
alcohol is abused was reported in The Metro by Stephen Deal. A young girl aged 14, attended a friend?s
house party on June 11th 2005, where she drank until she was ?unconscious?. This lead to her being
?indecently assaulted? by two men, who filmed all the events on their mobile phones. They then
showed images of the attack to staff at their work places. The men were then taken to court and found
guilty. This is a terrible example of what can go wrong when a young person abuses alcohol

Conclusion

This causes a range of problems and issues. These include: passer-by complaints. Even if the group of
teenagers are not up to any trouble, a group can sometimes appear intimidating to others. In a group
environment like this out in the streets, where many of the group have been drinking, violence can often
occur. If drinking is undertaken at home or in a supervised environment, this would be less dangerous.
For example, over 18?s are allowed to drink in pubs, which often have security to prevent violent
outbursts. In conclusion, I think the children should be educated more at school to see the damage that
is being done to their bodies, the way they appear to others when they are drunk and the social affect it
will have in the future. I feel there should be a course or presentation that parents have to legally attend
once their children are of a certain age in order to educate both parents and children as some parents
beliefs are out dated. Their parents should take more interest in what their children are getting up to
when they aren?t with them. I also feel that legislation is not always the route, but maybe there should
be more facilities for teenagers where they may gather together in a safe environment
Teenagers may be involved with psychoactive substances in various ways. Experimentation with alcohol
and drugs during adolescence is common. Unfortunately, teenagers often don't see how their actions
today will have negative consequences tomorrow. They also have a tendency to feel indestructible to
the problems that others experience. Using alcohol and tobacco at a young age increases the risk of
using other drugs later. Some teens will experiment and stop, or continue to use occasionally, without
significant problems. Others may develop a dependency, moving on to more dangerous drugs and
causing significant harm to themselves. If teenagers consume these substances, they'll get diseases at
earlier age. Some teenagers try to imitate those people who smoke because they see that this people
seem to have a lot of fun; but they are not being rational. Many people act in ways and make decisions
without thinking very much or being careful. Adolescence is a time for trying new things. Teens use
alcohol and other drugs for many reasons, such as curiosity, because it feels good, to reduce stress, to
feel grown up or to fit in a group of popular guys. It is difficult to know which teens will experiment and
stop and which will develop serious problems. Researches show that teenagers at risk for developing
serious alcohol and drug problems include those with a family history of substance abuse, the ones who
are depressed, who have low self-esteem, and who feel like they don't fit in on a group of peers. Drug
use is related with a variety of negative consequences, including increased risk of serious drug use later
in life, school failure, and poor judgment, which may put teens at risk for accidents, violence, unsafe sex,
and suicide

Also people think that addiction is a disease that it doesn't have a cure and the only way to treat it is to
avoid the addiction, lifelong abstinence and be in constant vigilance by the ones that surround you. But
all these ideas about addiction are not quite right because they mix the process of addiction with its
impact. They don't explain much about the subject so they can help us understand the addiction.
Smokers use cigarettes to reduce anxiety, sadness, boredom. Depressed people use it to forget about
their problems because the nicotine can give pleasure and can ease pain. If these kinds of people get
used to cigarettes to regulate emotional states it would be very difficult to take it away if you don't have
an alternative to alleviate those states, so they will return to their addiction and it would become
stronger than before. It is too difficult for smokers to try leaving their addiction for the nicotine. They
would need the support of their family, peers or well instructed people to help overcome his or her
addiction. Because nicotine addictive people can not stay like half an hour without smoking it makes
them too difficult to quit it. There are even smokers that are too use to nicotine that they can not live
without it. Those people that are dependent of the nicotine but would like to stop smoking, they have to
leave the cigarettes little by little, because if they decided to leave it right away it would be prejudicial
for their organisms. We have to see also the right time to stop smoking, it is just better to try quitting
the cigarettes in a time when you are relaxed, without any pressure, most likely on vacations.

The supermarkets are just as bad. With the new checkout system alcohol can be bought by anyone of
any age and I've yet to see a young person being stopped from buying drink because of their age. Do the
supervisors not notice this or are they just choosing to ignore it. Is this not a serious offence to sell
alcohol to an underage drinker? If the consumer had had an accident then it would be partially the
sellers fault. If they hadn't sold the drink then the accident might not have happened. My point of view
is that governments should check the clubs, off licences and supermarkets to make sure alcohol is not
being sold to underage teens. Bouncers in clubs should also be checking ID's properly and not just
glancing over it. Sure, who would know what could happen ... drinks spiked or even rapes. Many health
problems and road deaths associated with alcohol can be prevented if people start to work together and
stop under aged teens drinking obsessive amounts of alcohol. Teens stop and think about what could
happen before you go abusing alcohol. Remember, anything can happen!
