II. Key Tasks and Responsibilities

During my internship I was assigned in the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor to the Civil
Case Department with Sir Rey as my immediate supervisor. The task that was really thought by them
was to record in the Books of Docket the cases that already has a decision in it, and this was the first
thing that we have done during our internship. Aside from docketing, I was also asked to help Sir
Eric, Ma’am Karen and Ma’am Rochelle to help them make their letter of Notice to reset the hearing.
I’ve released also the notice that I made from them so that the defendant’s and the plaintiff will be
notified.
I was also asked to do smaller tasks during my internship like making a folder using a scratch
paper or helping other staff to sort some files in the basement office. And sometimes I also help my
co-OJTs to finish their task when I finished mine ahead of time. Also, I help Sir John accessing the MS
excel when he didn’t know some ‘shortcuts’.
In the month of March, where my real task begun I docketed or recorded almost 6 bundle of
books and released almost thousands of mails that we were sending to the defendants and the
plaintiffs. It will never be easy at first but if you give your very best in every task that you do, it’ll be
worth it at the end.

III. Internship Experience and Learning

The purpose of an internship is to provide a real-world experience that enables you to put
everything you've learned into action and will help you to be prepared in a real world battle
someday.
What I experienced in my internship is not a 100% of what I’ve learned in school, I only used
30% of my knowledge in school where every document that we were handling are important. And
the 70% was from the people around us and on how well we can interact and communicate to the
people in the government and especially to the “customer” of the court.
I knew from the very beginning that this internship program will never be connected to my
course, but I was wrong. The Court and Business have a bigger similarity that is the PEOPLE, they are
also their customer. My main task here was to Record the past cases in the court on their Books of
Docket. Like in Accounting, we RECORD our transaction in our business on our Books of Account.
After all that have been said, still I’m thankful that I was assigned to the Office of the
Provincial Prosecutor. Not because it’s a very good training ground but rather they taught me how to
work with different kind of employees and to be a good follower. Those learning will be of great use
when I work as an Accounting Staff and encouraged same kind of employees.

IV. Impact of Internship on Career Goals

College life is quite different world from professional life. Here you will try to learn discipline
like what happens if you do not attend the workplace on time, they may mark you absent which will
effect at the end of your narrative report leading to poor attendance. The work will be affected
because of your indiscipline. If you do not speak with your co-workers, you will not learn anything
during the training period, you can even develop leadership skills, culture and interpersonal skills.
You will learn respecting others and their ideas. You will have a chance to experience problem
solving skills from your superiors.
My internship experience may never be as good as I expected it to be, but I still want to
work with them someday, maybe as an Attorney or as a staff also in their office. In fact, because I
worked in Regional Trial Court my obsession in Law makes me wanted to be a Lawyer someday. Sir
Rey told us that if you dream, dream higher and it’s a must that you will attain it, not for someone
but for yourself.

V. How Well the Accounting Technology Program Prepared Me for the Internship

The Accountancy program indeed prepared me for the internship. I was able to apply my
knowledge on how to do things efficiently and effectively. I may not have experience accounting
problems in the office but I certainly brought the knowledge I’ve learned in the program. There is
also a process in the office that we must follow so the work will flow smoothly and precisely, if you
made just one mistake, you should go back from the very beginning of the process because it’ll ruin
the flow of the business in court. Just like in accounting, one single error may have cause a sever
effect in the process of doing things.

VI. Recommendation to the Accounting Technology Curriculum

The internship is very vital especially to those graduating students like me, for us to have at
least an idea and background in working with real employees in the real office. And with that I highly
recommend that they should increase the allotted hours of the On-the-Job-Training during the
internship so the student’s may have learned different things and be capable to deal with different
kind of people every day. Also, I recommend that they should not assign a student in the Regional
Trial Court, aside from they do not have some space for more interns there, they will not learned
much especially when the interns wants to experience using the system and apply his knowledge
because all the works to be done by the interns were just manually operated.

In terms of recommendation for the Internship program I would suggest that: Make
Internship a Required Course. Making internship a requirement not only guarantees that all
graduates will have participated in this valuable activity, but also makes the experience much more
effective because it can be incorporated as an integral part of the curriculum. Also, By becoming a
basic part of the tradition and culture of a college. The internship program is strengthened and
provides additional benefits to all involved. And lastly Require that all intern students be paid
employees. In order to gain the maximum benefits of a work-based learning experience, students
need to be placed in a "real-world" situation in which they are actual employees and subject to the
same requirements, expectations, and conditions of their co-workers. This also eliminates concerns
regarding liability and other problems associated with having non-employee interns at the work site.
it should be noted that some governmental agencies and other nonprofit organizations have formal
volunteer internship programs which treat interns very similar to paid personnel.
