Brief Introduction of the Study:

Due to the changing world of technology, the means of teaching and learning changes as well. The use
of video as means of teaching is not very new. Even in the pre-historic times, projectors were used to
educate cavemen. Since then, using a video has helped teachers and learners as well. The use of video
brings out the creativity within the students. It is also believed to improve the retention of students in
learning. The study conducted gave an insight on the relevance and effectiveness of using videos in
teaching. It aimed to open opportunity for students and teachers to maximize the use of multimedia in
improving the comprehension of students on different topics.

Statement of the Problem/Objectives of the Study:

General Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of video presentation to student’s learning

Specific Objectives:

1. What is the profile of the student-participants in terms of:

a. Academic level
b. Gender

2. What are the student’s perceptions on the effectiveness of use of video presentation in
learning?

3. Is there a significant difference on the student’s perception on the effectiveness of use of

video presentation in learning when grouped according to the profile variables?

Research Design: The researcher utilized a quantitative descriptive design to measure the effectiveness
of video presentation to student’s learning.
Participants of the Study: The participants of the study are selected students currently enrolled in the
College of Nursing of Benguet State University in the school year 2014-2015. Using Slovin’s formula and
random sampling, there were 57 students chosen as participants from the 1st and 3rd yr level, 47
students from the 2nd yr level and 62 students from the 4th yr level.

Instrumentation/Data gathering Tools: A questionnaire was used to gather the data. The survey tool
was based on the Michigan State University-IT services: Learning Design and Technology and has two
sections: 1. The profile of the participants, and; 2. The questionnaire that is composed of 10 items.

Data Analysis/Statistical Tools:

 Mean and standard deviation – these were used to identify the level of effectiveness of video
presentation to students learning in the four (4) different academic levels.
 T-test was utilized to determine if a significant difference exists between male and female’s
perceptions on the effectiveness of video presentation.
 Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used in identifying the differences in students’ perceptions
when grouped according to their academic levels.

Findings and Conclusions:

1. It was found out that the level of the effectiveness on using video presentation to students’
learning is highly effective.
2. there is no significant difference between male and female perceptions of the effectiveness of
video presentation to student’s learning. Hence, the male and female populations have the
same view of the effectiveness of video presentations as a teaching aid.
3. There is a significant difference among the respondents’ view of the effectiveness of video
presentation when grouped according to their year level. Significant differences can be seen in
the perception of the effectiveness of video presentation to learning when Levels I and III were
compared to Level IV. On the other hand, a significant difference is also shown in level II when
compared to level III, whereas, all lower levels differed significantly with the seniors, excluding
level II. The results revealed that in general, perceptions of all levels differ from each other and a
significant difference was observed. This may imply that use of video presentation has an effect
to every year level.

Comments/Suggestions/Recommendations:
The researcher recommended that the study be conducted with a larger population. The researcher also
recommended to further validate the study by including control and experimental groups per year level.

Learning Insights:

This research article was very simple, but it yielded in an interesting result. I learned that the use of
statistics is important in quantifying even the most obvious facts. Moreover, statistics can be used to
explore and investigate a lot of things. From this research, I learned that in general the use of videos is
useful but it can also vary depending on a lot of factors such as the year level, or maybe the subject that
is being taught.
